No. Send them away from society. Exile them to a deserted island.

People caught molesting are already put in prison and severely restricted even after serving time and being released. But they're only the tip of the iceberg. The vast majority of pedophiles will never become known to the public, much less caught offending and prosecuted. What can society do to keep people with these inclinations from acting on them? Why not let them use dolls or porn that doesn't involve any actual children?

First of all, which country? The organization promoting use of the dolls is not a government agency.

Second, do you really think that rape and child molestation are limited to "third world scum?"

Third, I think the argument for the dolls makes about as much sense as treating alcoholism by plying those afflicted with light beer instead of the hard stuff - in short, a really bad idea. And no, I am not drawing any kind of moral comparison between drinking and rape. I am saying I don't think feeding the urge, in either case, is likely to help suppress it.

Sounds good..now..what is your solution for the vast majority that don't get caught?

How should we prevent these crimes from taking place?

This is the issue I've always had with the laws we have in place, they solve nothing before the fact...does executing someone make the victim feel better? Since the overwhelming majority of sexual abuse cases take place in the home--would not the death penalty act as a reason for victims not to tell?
Not to mention, would not abusers be more likely to kill their victims..since usually it's the testimony of the victim that convicts...

Everyone gets a cheap, feel-good moment in venting their spleen..but no-one ever has a solution to what is, a very pervasive and complex problem

Being from Finland, I think this is a good idea. If a doll can prevent even one living child of becoming a victim, it's worth it.

As distasteful as my reaction to it is, I get the point and I agree with both of the above. It is along the same lines as this article:

https://mobile.nytimes.com/2014/10/0...t-a-crime.html

and this related CD discussion on said article:

New York Times Says Pedophilia is Not a Crime
