I think people think the US could just "adopt" the "Scandinavian system." Just like that. There are many reasons, though, that that would be an economic atom bomb if attempted in the US. And how many other fairly un-American tenets of Scandinavia would we also have to adopt?

Remember any method of paying for healthcare is designed to protect the sick person's family wealth. The only people that do not need financial protection are already so wealthy that huge payments for medical treatment are minor losses to the investment account.

A medical system that is paid for only by the patient and their family is a really cruel form of blackmail designed to take from the poor or nearly poor and give to the wealthy to really wealthy. It can be considered a form of very regressive taxation. The concept of pay or die is just another name for a protection racket run by very cold and cruel people.

I prefer a universal payment system where the federal government pays all the healthcare bills. It keeps prices reasonable by negotiation with the providers of the care about salaries, profits and investments. Another cost savings is the government does not have to pay very expensive executives and other inflated costs. Civil Service managers do not get multimillion dollar salaries. Having the government making the payments is far less costly than involving private sector casinos called health insurance companies.

Even with the savings realized by government payments the cost of healthcare for the entire population is still very high. I hope someone figures out just how high so we can reconfigure government spending. This could include reducing redundant weapons systems, decreased involvement in foreign wars, and reducing managerial and executive overhead in the defense industries. Agricultural subsidy is another place the government could reduce spending.

Although some people consider taxation theft I consider it part of paying for a relatively peaceful society. I consider a progressive taxation system will serve to return wealth to the people that create it from the people that, using various market destroying techniques, effectively steal the wealth in the first place. Healthcare, and the rest of the government spending could be paid for by a graduated income tax levied on the 90 to 100th percentile steep enough to pay for operating the government as well as paying down the Federal Debt at 5% per year. That would place the burden of government on the crooks that bribe politicians with campaign donations and actually own the resources and production of the country.

Sad for those who live in red states without expanded Medicaid and sad for all who will eventually lose their health care due to this failure.

Does anyone care about the American people?
Much like preferring not to even pass a budget. Always a lot easier to simply point at the problems than it is to engage in fixing them. What, me compromise? Oh HELL no! That would mean I'd have to think instead of simply casting a "nay" vote. I've got a round of golf to get to!

What we have here is a failure of leadership...
A failure of leadership or another example of the extreme fringe dictating for everyone else , the my way or the highway mentality; ultimately the US citizens are the ones who lose.

I thought it was kind of nutty at first, but over the past eight or nine months I've kind of come around to thinking we're probably going to need to be two different countries. Wow. Do you understand the role of Federal Government?Do you have the right to fundamentally alter everything about what this particular country was founded on? I'm just talking in general. I think we might need to eventually be two different countries.
They don't understand at all.

Most of them only have an understanding of our form of government from university text books which are pure revisionist garbage or government education channels which are the same.

They have never read the ratification debates, the federalist/anti-federalists papers, or the numerous writings of the founders which properly place their intent clearly (if they have some of it, they hack them to pieces so they can force it to their narrative). Even if you spend the time to corner them to accept such, they merely dismiss it and go on about how they were a bunch of racist slave owners anyway and people today are so much more enlightened.

They are completely ignorant, I mean... on the verge of insanity.

What is sad is that they are so far gone, that they don't even realize the failings of their ideal right in front of their face. They keep blaming someone/something else and continue to have dreamy eyes that it will all work out, even when people are being harmed right in front of their eyes by it.

When you look back through history and you see how communism led to the murder of millions of people due to government policies and direct hand, it becomes clear how they could allow it. Look at them now, look how smug and righteous they are.

15-20 years ago they swore up and down they were all about liberty, freedom, etc.. that they believed in the Constitution, etc... Now look at them all giddy and disregarding of our entire founding so they can push for communist goals. They will say and do anything to see it through, nothing is out of bounds, anything is acceptable because the end justifies the means for them.

Note though, when it happens, it won't be by our hand, it will be by theirs. It will be another crusade where they will tell themselves that killing off any who object is justified, for the betterment of society, you know... because us evil individual liberty loving people are so selfish, hateful... we deserve to die.

It is coming, you can see it in their attitudes even now (rants, their physical attacks on political opponents, etc...)
