Here's the reality -- immigration officers have always had a great deal of leeway with regards to what they could ask a visitor about and how they could detain someone.
And the reality -- any REAL terrorist would not have a social media account that could be identified by an American Customs Officer.
They 'announce' this stuff for drama and show....see see how we are protecting you. pfft.
We have been strip-searching people for coming in to US ever since the border control was established. Where have you been?
Citizens or non-citizens, people at the borders have very few rights, certainly not the rights to unreasonable searches. Customs agents can search with or without warrant in anyway they want.
The legality is not in question. Back when I was a young'un, people would brave traveling to the Soviet Union and completely expect their suitcases to be rifled through for subversive books and the like. But that was simply considered a reflection of Soviet values.
So they are going to cut the TSA and increase the amount of invasive and time-consuming procedures.
