I wonder if this is legal or not, but today I went to my local Walgreens to purchase some medicines for my bad cold, and the lady at the cashier's asked for my Drivers License.
I thought, she was only supposed to verify my age, maybe there are drug addicts around buying cold medicines to manufacture crack. Which I thought is ok, is like buying alcohol or beer, they need to verify legal age.
Well, this lady scanned my Drivers License in some sort of machine, and here is my question.
Are they supposed to scan my ID and keep my information somewhere?

It's law and has been for years. If what you bought contains ingredients that can be used to produce illegal drugs, that's what they do now.

I disagree with it, I feel it's an invasion of our privacy and they always claim it's cut down on meth labs, which I feel is b.s.

Excuse me, but why didn't you immediately demand to know what she was doing? Or did you?

Yep, it's a law because of Walter White's making meth.

Not to worry though, the information in the barcode on your DL is only the information that's printed on the license.

Or instead of acting like a jerk and start demanding things, why didn't you just politely ask her why she needed to scan your license. That doesn't seem so hard.

Ok thanks !!
I still believe is an invasion of privacy and also our information is at risk if a hacker steal their data base.
I hope my SSN is not in there.

Yes. Many places do that. I worked for awhile as a Cashier and we had to do that.
