i am thinking this is something that the left and right should try to come together on and get some results.
We keep saying "time to leave " and yet nothing happens because both parties are afraid to be seen as "weak".
maybe it is up to the public to make this an issue that both parties could agree on and end this war that we will never really win.
Then quit voting in candidates who keep us over there.
The first President who brings our troops home would automatically be hailed as one of the best Presidents ever. The economy would improve since people would be paying less taxes because military spending would be way down even if defense spending increased. Troops would spend their money here. We would automatically become more safe.
Less need for the Patriot Act and the NSA so less spying on Americans under the guise of security.
There is no such thing as winning in the Middle East. I wish that Bush had called the Taliban after 9-11 and said " you have 24 hours to turn him ( bin laden ) over or we are going to turn the region into a shiny piece of glass." And then done it. If I was a woman, child or infidel living under the Taliban I would have welcomed the painless death.
It cannot be said too many times... We Do Not Belong In The Middle East!
Take Israel off the short leash. They can handle their business. They proved that in the seven day war.
As far as oil goes, sorry Halliburton & co., you are just going to have to pay market rate. No more young American boys dying to keep oil prices low. The sooner we can free ourselves from oil the better. Tell OPEC to take a look at our middle fingers.
What exactly were we suppose to win to start with? There never was a point from the beginning. The excuse was OBL but he quickly left. Did we pursue him? No, we stayed spinning our wheels while wasting trillions of dollars.
Who benefited from this? No one other than Wall Street. We sacrificed our sons and daughters along with who knows how many other innocent lives to prop up Wall Street.
Amen. Out of reps for you, but this is spot on. What exactly does winning look like in Afghanistan? The only "win" I can see is us out of there.
Think of all of the taxpayer dollars and American and Afghan lives that have been thrown into that black hole. And instead of conceding that we will never "win" there, we just keep throwing good money after bad; just keep sacrificing human life for absolutely no reason.
But hey, the defense contractors continue to line their pockets with trillions of our hard earned dollars, so they're happy.

McCain, got rather upset with Mattis arguing that the USA needs a new plan fast.
WE are 16 years into this war, we are clearly not winning, and we are breeding more opponents not less.
Afghans don't seem to be deeply motivated to fight hard and certainly not willing to enter a large scale conflict whatever about defending lands held.
WE have tried just about everything the US public is willing to accept
We are not grinding anyone down.
We are not prepared to fight Pakistan.
This war is unwinnable in its current form.
Is it time to just leave?
Yes they are. If we weren't giving them the stink eye about stirring up trouble in the region they would have smashed the Palestinians long ago. They have nukes for petes sake.

Kind of hard to nuke your neighbor just a few miles away. My city has more square miles.
