Yep. I've said this many times and I'm not sure why almost nobody gets it.
I do. That's what I propose.
Current cost to operate the federal government divided by every living breathing citizen.
It would be a flat tax.
Everyone would pay the same money, and it would limit exactly how much uncle Sam gets to spend. Transitions power from capital hill to the citizens.
Want to go into another war that will increase our tax burden? Chances are it's not going to happen if it's not popular in the citizens eyes. We boycott businesses who's political stances we disagree with...
What's that business do to remain relevant when revenue shrinks? Trims the fat.
What would the government have to do if it had to rely on everyone? Trim the fat.
You'd see federal executive branches be the first to go. Less federal employees.
Not satisfied with your online order of goods? Call up the credit card company and dispute it. Don't like what your elected officials do? Same thing. Don't pay. They can't draw a check. Bye bye inept representative. Find some grime and shady happenings where they were helped to be put in power by the elite? Don't pay and dispute.
Would essentially weed every single would be career politician out of holding office.
Would essentially end the big time deficit...
NOT.
Have you even taken a minute to think of what a consumption tax is? The wealthy consume A LOT more than the poor. Therefore thy would they would be taxed A LOT more.
The advantage of a consumption tax over an income tax is that a consumption tax encourages frugality and savings. The saving of money encourages investment and lending. That's better for the economy and the environment. An income tax is basically a way of redistributing income. Those who produce more are forced to in effect transfer much their earnings to those who produce little or produce nothing. It's a tool which has the effect of discouraging hard work and encouraging, in some cases, healthy people to not work at all because they can collect from the government as much as they could by getting a job.
Good points. AND we would be able to collect taxes from tourists, illegal aliens and layabouts who currently contribute nothing.
You can't legislate "fair" its an arbitrary term that means a billion different things to a billion different people. To democrats, "fair" seems to mean anyone who manages to eat more than mac and cheese every day for dinner.
if we are talking a flat tax...10% or maybe 15% at most... no person should pay a different percentage than the other...we are all equal, tax us equally
no one or entity should pay more than 15%...if the government cant run on 15% of everyone income...then the government has a spending problem
personally I would rather see the income tax go the way of the Dinosaur , taxing income, especially when 17% to 52% of income is never reported (people working off the books)... I would rather a consumption tax (a federal sales tax)....
research www.fair-tax.org this is the way to go in my humble opinion
I agree. Why should people who have kids get breaks over those who chose not to have kids. Why should married couples be treated different than those who are single. Why should people who studied hard when they were in their teens, went to college instead of partying, and then got a good career that pays well be punished over those who think they are entitled?
