multiculturalism and diversity is causing division. It does not make us stronger it makes us weaker and destroys the fabric of society. Name me a place where this so called diversity is so wonderful? You can not. The places that have the most happy people are where they are homologous. Japan is one.
The United States has become an extremely successful nation with its diversity. It is more successful than even Japan and arguably more than any country in the world. Therefore, I disagree with your main point.
Having said that, I think we should limit immigration to our country based on merit. I believe that is Canada's immigration policy, and if it is then they have it right. We have taken in far too many people who came from the lower elements in their societies and have brought in crime and lawlessness to so many communities. THAT is the problem and it has to be stopped.
The USA has always been divided. The nation was nearly torn apart in the Civil War. For most of this nation's history, if you were not White, you were forced into a lowly position. You wouldn't have a say. You would face discrimination. Truth is, the best this nation has ever been has been after the 1960s.
Agree this is the best it's ever been & maybe the current 'discordance' will be as 'things getting worse (temporarily) before they get better?
As for the revenge taken after the American Civil War? When Confederate-Sharia laws were enacted? How was that assimilation into society? How was that an example of 'becoming an American' or 'identifying as an American'?

As bad as things are, in terms of racial tensions, this is actually better than at anytime from 1969 and prior. I think social media has exposed the bad that is still out there.
Confederate Sharia laws go counter to what America is suppose to be about. If we're all Americans, we should treat each other as such. The sad thing is, some people want the version of America where all non-Whites are excluded. People couldn't "become American " while being excluded.
The issue isn't multiculturalism and/or diversity in itself.
It's forced association/creating these paradigms through statist schemes such as immigration policies that causes problems.
The human trafficking exhibited by the world's governments, including the U.S., is only meant to divide and conquer the serfs.
Immigration is voluntary, not forced. Anarchists have to defend completely open borders, but most won't because they don't actually believe in no government.

This multicultural BS is down the same rabbit hole as political correctness.
Diversity is nice, especially in diversity of ideas, which is often neglected.
However, there should be a push to assimilate new groups to basic tenants of Western principle.
Additionally, we should accept new Americans in such a manner for the safety, environment, and flourishing of our own people.
