Well this is the USA, not Asia.

Why should a plant be illegal in the first place.

Totally agree with pot legalization. There's a very good case for keeping heroin illegal. That stuff kills people. Comes from a plant.

So does hemlock, white oleander and a huge variety of other botanicals. Heroin is refined from sap of the poppy, on it's own, it doesn't do much of anything. The sap is simply opium, in its rawest form and was once as common in the US pharmacopeia as cocaine and hashish. Hell, heroin was a brand name from Bayer.

It's curious that the least lethal, least harmful drug, cannabis is still on a class one schedule. Logically, it make NO sense, at all.

That's fair. You could legalize poppy farming and ban the manufacture or distribution of heroin. You're 100% right on cannabis. Stuff is less harmful the alcohol and tobacco.

Uh huh. I'm considered conservative in many respects. I'm for free minds, free markets, powerful individuals, limited meddling and manipulation by authority. Live and let live. I've been against the costly, anti-liberty Drug War and for the legalization of some drugs for decades.

I don't give a crap about Pence or any other party politician.

Saying "conservatives" are for locking people up for personal decisions is absurd. I am in fact utterly against the use of government coercion or legal authority in service of any kind of arbitrary moral code and any kind of social engineering / justice effort. Saying "conservatives" are trying to create an oppressive theocracy (like The Handmaid's Tale?) is absurd. I am in fact a lifelong atheist strongly opposed to the use of any religious ideology in the creation of policy.

These statements are cartoonish strawmen akin to saying "leftist liberals are all intersectional feminists who are about taking communist control of the free market and instituting severe central authority over many more aspects of life in order to create the perfect equality of outcome utopia."

The war on drugs harms the right and drives moderates towards the Democrat camp. If you really believe in freedom and personal responsibility I don't know how you can support stopping what people out into their body. I'd decriminalize possession (not distribution) of small amounts of cocaine, LSD, and mushrooms as well. Meanwhile I'd support execution of anyone involved in the drug trade known to be violent and commit more serious crimes like murder. You can be into drugs without being violent and pushing people around. I'd start a war on drug cartels, and use the military to fight it. Make a deal with Mexico allowing us to go in. Take out any corrupt cops down there while we're at it.
