People seem to be missing the point of this new American Cultural Revolution. We are at the starting point not the end goal. The end goal needs to be defined. Removing statues and eliminating historical references of the past is a starting point. Those who want this American Cultural Revolution to proceed need to lay out their map and process to the end goal. Everyone should listen to what they have to say and not be distracted by the shiny button of statues.
Asking questions about history sidelines the discussion. The entire point of a Cultural Revolution is to eliminate, alter, change, purge, the past and historical reference to it in favor of imposing a new dominate ideology of purity.
Slavery was a contentuous issue since colonization began. In the North, it was always viewed with disdain - similar to how we viewed 10 year old kids in Bangladesh stitching our Nike shoes back in the '90s. Few liked the institution of slavery, but for most part looked the other way until the Civil War
I still don't understand people trying to defend their "heritage". The South lost. Get over it. They committed the worst act of treason against America by launching a Civil War against the US of A. They fought to preserve a gross violation of human rights against millions of African Americans. It doesn't get more cartoonishly villain than that. The Confederates are on par with the Nazis or ISIS as the dregs of humanity
We should remove all Confederate statues and monuments across this great, multicultural nation and place them in the "traitors" section of a historical museum
Slavery was practiced by all races and ethnicities throughout the world for thousands of years.
You don't complain about that, you only complain about white Southerners.
They did not commit treason. They formed their own country. You can't commit treason against a country you are not part of anymore.
It was perfectly legal under the Constitution to secede from the union. Three states explicitly made their right to secede a condition of their joining the union in the first place: Virginia, New York, and Rhode Island.
So the only treasonous act (against the Constitution) was committed by Abraham Lincoln who -- incidentally -- said that blacks are inferior to whites.
If we put confederate statues in museums, it will only be a matter of time before the fascist Left will demand that those museums be closed or the statues removed from them so that they can't be seen by the public.
The Left has lied all along about its intentions. They denied that they wanted to go after Washington and Jefferson, but now they do want to go after them.
Soon, they'll be burning books that they don't approve of.
Then, if they get their way, they'll be killing people they don't approve of the way the Left did in Russia, China and Cambodia.
That's the way of the un-American, anti-American, racist (against whites), hateful and evil fascist Left!
THEY are the traitors to this country and everything it stands for -- starting with free speech that they don't like, which they now try to censor and violently shut down at every opportunity.

LBJ did start a war that nearly destroyed the the USA and the reason he most commonly expressed was he feared appearing soft on Communism, IOW he started a damn war over his image. And Nixon tried to manipulate it to benefit his reelection. May they both rot in hell. In comparison, R E Lee served honorably in the US Army for 32 years, served as Superintendent of West Point, and the war he fought was over what was a legal right at the time.

Wow. Have you purchased your neckercheif and ski mask for an upcoming riot?

The end goal is pretty clear.
Robbing and then exterminating all whites.
After that, times will be tough. No one to steal from anymore.
