For example universal healthcare should be a no brainer the US is one of the least efficient countries when it comes to healthcare as a advanced nation. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...east-efficient

The same goes for robust welfare programs many working class people would stand to gain alot by having strong systems in place to protect them from poverty if a job is lost. It honestly makes no sense to me. Looking for some clarification.

Because Americans don't like socialism pure and simple.

Take care of yourself and pay for your own stuff and not for others. Contrary to popular liberal beliefs most people like to take care of themselves.

Would you vote for universal housing, universal food and universal transportation where you pay a percentage of your income and receive the same housing, food and transportation as everyone else?

It is the false consciousness that Marx talked about in Das Kapital. The lower and middle classes get duped by the upper class into thinking they too will be at the top some day, so they vote for what the upper class wants, even though it is detrimental to them

I would happily do that it would lower crime and prevent extreme poverty from developing. I would rather make slightly less and help the least fortunate than line my own pocketbook at the expense of others.

Because of people like the poster I quoted, who only care about themselves and say "f$&+ everyone else, I got mine"

I agree especially since social mobility in the US is low compared to other rich countries. Something doesn't add up

So, you want true socialism.

Why try to order sushi at a Mexican restaurant instead of just going to a sushi restaurant?

This isn't a socialist country. Why try so o forc others into such a system when you can just move to one?

Where in my post did I say I want to get rid of private property or capitalism?

No. I'd rather work hard have a nice house, then be a slacker and live in some sort of cookie cutter housing situation next to other slackers. Who wants to be average and identical to everyone else? Creeps me out just thinking about it.

Then what next? Extend the same policies worldwide? For the majority of people, that method will lower the standard of living, and only improve the quality of life for the very poor.
