It's generally the heavy leftists, the Antifa, the SJWs, the regressives, the illiberals using such tactics to try and gain the moral upper-hand and shut down any dialogue.

I do wish we wouldn't make sweeping pronouncements. Not every Democrat, left-leaning, progressive, or liberal thinks Ben Shapiro is a white supremacist. Most probably don't. I think we put people on the defensive (meaning, they reflexively feel they must dig in and defend something) with such talk, rather than trying to come to agreement.
Are we trying to have more people agree, or fewer?
Good post. I think most of us are very much aware it's not everyone of any group that does certain things, it's just fun to rile up the forum posters by exaggerating it.
I like to scan the headlines of what many on here would call liberal news outlets, but I don't see any pieces by news outlets or prominent mainstream liberal organizations or figures calling Shapiro a white supremacist.
So, let's see, first page of headlines gives us... 1) a left-wing activist who hijacked a police press conference called Shapiro a fascist and white supremacist, 2) some people at Berkeley have called him a white supremacist, 3) an organization called RejectFascism.org definitely did, and 4) some guy named Tariq Nasheed.
I see some isolated incidents by people who don't matter. I don't see smearing, unless you have some sources for us? "Smearing" bespeaks wide-spread branding.

Then why- pray tell- are so many Leftists bent out of shape about him giving a, a, a, a ... SPEECH?
Why is it a big deal? Why cannot they not ignore him? Perhaps watch a soap opera on TV instead?
If you came around and gave a speech, I would simply ignore it.

Oh stop presenting them with FACTS.
You are preventing them from having their daily mean-girls rant about liberals!
Obama radically transformed America back to the 1960s, except this time there is nothing in reality to be upset about, so they need to created villians and the villians they've created are anyone who doesn't go along the far left narrative that every white person is a white supremacist and the government should control our entire lives.
Why are SOME people smearing Ben Shapiro as a white supremacist?
LOL
Answer: Because they don't watch him on regular basis.
