Phony? So, you're trying to say that Lynch never snuck that Russian lawyer into the country?
"according to people familiar with the discussions" talk about some alleged "private briefings", then, the rest of the article goes on to make it appear that those at WaPo know exactly what those private briefings were about .. you like to throw the 'phony' remark around, maybe you should throw it at your own post.
Good luck with THAT stupid theory.
And you know what? No matter what kind of garbage theories you come up with and reference here on this board or elsewhere, NONE of it is going to stop Mueller's investigation. The people around Trump are in BIG trouble and the noose is drawing in on Trump himself for Obstruction of Justice (and maybe a lot more).
"WASHINGTON — Robert S. Mueller III, the special counsel, has asked the White House for documents about some of President Trump’s most scrutinized actions since taking office, including the firing of his national security adviser and F.B.I. director, according to White House officials.
Mr. Mueller is also interested in an Oval Office meeting Mr. Trump had with Russian officials in which he said the dismissal of the F.B.I. director had relieved “great pressure” on him.
The document requests provide the most details to date about the breadth of Mr. Mueller’s investigation, and show that several aspects of his inquiry are focused squarely on Mr. Trump’s behavior in the White House...."

You got nothing but vaporware coming from the 6 inches between your ears. When all else fails, go for the personal attack**
If you do provide a link it will be from Alex Jones or Info wars. Some weird conspiracy chain letter making the rounds of the alt right sites. Since it was much discussed in this forum, I felt no need to provide a link .. from Wapo, Infowars, or, Libs'Я'UsDaily
The Lynch/Obama conspiracy that they let the Russian lawyer in to frame Trump and his family is one of the largest piles of steaming bovine deposits to come from the alt right air waves since Mexico will pay for the wall.
**Personal attacks get you prime seating in my ignore file
You do realize that they are supposed to be investigating collusion that was supposed to have happened last year, right bro'?
Two things I can think of ...
The need to establish probable cause, which can involve activities and associations much further back in time, and the pursuit of any other possibly illegal activity they may come across along the way.
They can't actually ignore criminal activity they uncover, it would be dereliction of duty.

Manafort might have shoplifted a sandwich when he was in junior high. Why focus on the last 11 years? Trump is a real estate developer from New York. He probably

The next thing that Mueller will request - traffic camera video, from around Trump Tower, for the last 15-20 years, to see if Trump crossed the street against a red light.

As in any investigation, you follow the money. Manaforts' business dealings go back that far and it would be criminally negligent not to ferret them all out.
And as other's have pointed out, once that box is open, anything in it is fair game. Sucks for Manafort for sure. It remains to be seen how many others are going down with this ship.
There are people right here on this very thread who still think another Clinton investigation will turn up - well, something serious enough to put her and/or Bill in prison.
Having her days on earth end (eventually....from natural causes) without ever having been POTUS is the worst punishment that can be meted out to Hillary, no matter where outside the White House she spends those days between now and then.
