President Trump asked Alaska’s two Republican senators what they thought about reversing former President Barack Obama’s 2015 executive decision changing the name of the tallest mountain in North America from Mount McKinley to Denali – and both asked him not to do it.
President Obama wants to change the name of Mt. McKinley to Denali after more than 100 years," Trump tweeted in December 2015. "Great insult to Ohio. I will change back!"
Ohioans were outraged over Obama’s decision because the mountain was named for former President William McKinley, the state’s former governor, in 1986. He was assassinated in Buffalo, New York, in 1901.
Denali is the Athabascan word for "the high one." The Obama administration said it was renaming Mount McKinley "in recognition of the traditions of Alaska Natives."
I wonder how long before they change the name of Mt. Rainier, Jefferson, Adams, Hood, St. Helens, etc.? Like as if it will change anything. At least they don’t have to bother with Mt. Shasta.
I think it was good that he asked. Imagine Obama over stepping his bounds to rename a mountain and the people that actually live in Alaska were not happy with it? The Senators would have been privy to unhappy residents complaints but it sounds like they are not so the new name will stay.
It sounds more like Democracy in the works than a personal vendetta but who knows?
Locally in NH we have the tallest mountain in the North East named Mount Washington. It sounds majestic which it is but as we all know George Washington owned slaves as was the practice back then. I sure hope they don't try to rename that one. Mount Barrack Hussein Obama doesn't have the same ring to it.

lmao..Oh so it's petty that he asked them but not petty that Obama had changed it to begin with. That's how partisan pricks act.
Obama changed it because Alaskans wanted it changed but Ohio had been blocking it since the mid 70's. Good on Obama for doing what Alaskans wanted.
