I don't recall anyone claiming they were not influential. Perhaps some did but I haven't noticed.

So far as I can tell they are very influential with a certain type of gullible populace. That's the problem.

It’s an apples and oranges comparison as you can read articles from the Washington Post newspaper without going to the website.

It's entertainment. People go there to laugh, not for factual information.

This is not a good thing.

Unfortunately, people do go there for news. Not only do they go there, they avoid legitimate news sources.

WaPo and NYT have become liberal blogs, no news there.

Actually they have plenty of news and real, in-depth reporting. Breitbart has, what, nonsense and propaganda and hysterical whining from the insane right?

Both serve the same purpose-cognitive reinforcement of their viewers preconceptions. What is sad is that leftists are actually so readily conned into paying for things they can get for free. Or at the least, very cheaply in the supermarket checkout line.

Many foolish things in this country are both popular and influential. Do you own a TV?

If you think the NY Times and Washington Post, corporate-friendly mainstream publications, the Times arguably the globe's English language Paper of Record, are "Leftist", then you're basically to the right of Atilla the Hun, and think 95% of the planet is Leftist.

"Leftist" would be Workers World Weekly or something. The NY Times is about as mainstream as it gets. Everyone who matters, even Trump, reads the Times.
