What about Al Gore's father who filibustered the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Al Gore's son is a convenient exception right?

you keep arguing a causation correlation fallacy that has been debunked by the US census and the Secretary of State of every Southern state.

Again, if you go back 2 decades, the south was run by Democrats.Even in 2000, Democrats still ran the South.

And Census data from 2010 shows where people moved, and we have actual election returns to see how they voted. And those people you have called transplants clearly voted for Democrats.

I understand that a lot of the state legislatures were still controlled by Democrats until recently including NC. This observation actually undermines the Big Switch theory that says white racists fled Democratic party because LBJ went along with Republican civil rights legislation in the 1960s.

But for presidential elections, which see higher turnout, Republicans have won in south since Nixon in 1968, who was for civil rights by the way.

The core of the Big Switch theory is that Nixon had a 'Southern Strategy' that relied on pandering to white racism. Liberals assert this despite the fact Nixon was for civil rights and was praised by Martin Luther King.

Given there were numerous options for Democrats, how do you think they just happened to run the son of one of the politicians that filibustered the Civil rights act?

Just a total coincidence huh. It would be like if a party in Germany just happened to run the son of Hitler even though it seems like you wouldn't want to run the son of Hitler.

Prior to that they just happened to run the protege of segregationist WIlliam Fullbright. Did you know Clinton bestowed the Presidential Medal of Freedom on Fullbright and called him a great visionary. If Clinton was a Republican, that would have been described as a dog whistle to white racists.

What exactly are you saying is the "undermining " factor ????

Nixon never advocated any racist policies as president or prior positions, and he actually helped found affirmative action.

Not sure how you can say it is pandering. Even if he was a secret racist, he never was racist in policy.

Consider this, 32 years prior to AL Gore running, Republicans nominated a person who help found affirmative action policy. 32 years later, Democrats nominated the son of a man who filibustered civil rights act of 1964.

Yet liberals say it is likely white racists are mostly Republican voters now.

Pandering does not mean secret . Pandering means you lie to people so they will vote for you.

To be clear, no one here ever argued that Nixon was a racist, but rather that he used those tactics to get elected.

Nixon never lied about his plans on civil rights though. He forced ALabama to allow black students to enroll in colleges in opposition to Democrat George Wallace.

I could assert that Democrats only pretend care about civil rights now, after they were defeated on the issue by the GOP.

Accusations of pandering are a two way street.
