“We have to do two things. We have to generate economic growth which generates revenue, while reducing spending. That will mean instituting structural changes to Social Security and Medicare for the future.”
And then the OP and the LATimes spins this into the GOP is going to gut the retirement of seniors. No wonder nobody pays attention to the left anymore.
Big Fail

Define "Structural Changes".
You seem to give them plenty of attention, so I believe your claim is bogus.
Want to make cuts, first off stop sending Billions to other Nations, half of whom hate us, stop welfare and social programs for illegals, bring our soldiers back to the US we have spent enough time, lives, and money in the ME and other countries, forget the stupid Wall, we cannot afford it, reform welfare so that those that need it get it and those that do not are pushed off it. Those are just a few money saving ideas, there are plenty more, what you do not cut are programs that people have been paying into all their lives, especially since the government, Dems and Repubs alike, have stolen a large amount of the SS funds, how about putting that money back since it was supposed to be just borrowed.
Members of Congress from both sides of the aisle have been saying for a couple of decades anyway that both Social Security and, especially, Medicare have to have adjustments made in order to remain solvent.
What would have been the response of the OP if, say, Senator Schumer had made the same statement. No doubt it would have been plaudits for his "speaking the hard truth".

Thank you for an intelligent response. Even before Rubio revealed Republican intentions, I predicted that the Republicans will use the deficit to cut Medicare and Social Security. The very wealthy are intent on eventually wiping out Medicare and all elements of the New Deal that costs them money.

Rubio, like Jeb, Kasich, et. al., in spite of all the money backing their respective corporate ***** campaigns, were crushed in the primary by Trump because working Americans don't need to be told who pulls their strings.
We already know that.
Jeb and Kasich even wanted a giant amnesty bill.
You see what happened to them.
But just because the Republicans suck doesn't mean Democrats suck less, they don't.
In fact, they suck far more.
They are just as much in bed with big money (if not more).
They are just as corrupt (if not more).
