looks like another big year for Republicans in 2018
Newt Gingrich: ‘The stage is being set’ for GOP landslide in 2018
Newt Gingrich said Thursday that Democrats are headed for a major political upset in 2018, mostly due to the mainstream media’s dishonesty and the party’s inability to learn from its own mistakes.
“The great political surprise of 2018 will be the size of the Republican victory,” the former Republican House Speaker wrote in a column for Fox News. “After members of the elite media have spent two years savaging President Trump, lying about Republican legislation, and reassuring themselves that Republican defeat was inevitable, the size of the GOP victory in 2018 will be an enormous shock.”

I tend to agree with that. But, let's wait and see what happens; none of us have a crystal ball and you really can't discount the effectiveness of mass indoctrination from the left.
All I can say is that if that does happen, saying "told you so" is going to be pretty enjoyable. The question is whether that many reasonable people can make the "Trump Effect" happen again, or whether they have been sufficiently cowed and ridiculed to keep them away from the voting places.
Trump is not running in 2018, and being that his popularity is extremely low any politician closely associated with trump is going to have a tough race. Being a POS has it's consequences.
Only time will tell how the GOP does in congressional Elections in 2018, but it is extremely rare for the President’s Party to gain seats.
In the 22 off-year elections since 1934, the President’s Party has lost House seats 19 times (86% of the time). In those 3 years where seats were gained, gains were 5, 8 and 9 seats.
In the Senate, the President’s Party has lost seats 17 of the last 22 off-year elections (78% of the time). The largest gain of Senate seats was 9 by the Democrats way back in 1934. With that exception, the largest gain for a Presidential Party in an off year was 3 Senate seats.
The second attachment shows the correlation between the President’s approval rating and House seat loss by his party.
The President’s approval for the July in the previous year to the election year was noted. In 11 of the 12 elected presidents since 1970 (all but Bill Clinton), the President’s approval on election day was lower than the July in the previous year. Trump’s approval last July was only 38%, which is the lowest on the chart.
Newt was right about Trump having a great shot of becoming president. Newt saw the supporters at the rallies and was amazed. He knew and I too knew Trump had a good shot after I went to two rallies. The people were fired up for a win.
And Hillary Clinton could barely fill up a small gymnasium at the YMCA.
With Trump at the helm, Republicans will be fighting an uphill battle.
