Yes, police do quite a bit to cover for their CI's.

A little baby named Prince McLeod was murdered by a police CI. Before the murder the police helped edit a tape/video of the CI raping the mother's sister to make it look less like rape. In the remaining video the victim can still be heard pleading for the rapist to hurry up and get it over with. Sound like consensual encounter to you? And the victim is crying and withdrawn, not participating. The police then arrested the victim and her sister for having made the complaint against the CI.

It took the murder of the baby to finally get the man off the streets and none of the government officials were ever punished for their role in the murder.
