Its all about demographic changes and voting. If we continue with the immigration numbers we have now , we are doomed to democrat one party rule and a third world future

The republicans have been courting black and hispanic voters for 40 years and its amounted tot he exact same numbers. usually just around 36% of the hispanic vote and the repubs are lucky to get 10% of the black vote. pathetic

No better with asian or indian immigrants. Large scale Immigration is political suicide for the republicans

We need to cut even legal immigration on a massive scale and get rid of chain migration, visa lotteries, build the wall,e-verify and if the dems dont approve than start to deport the "dreamers"

Deputy White House press secretary Hogan Gidley touted a Harvard Harris poll on Morning Edition Tuesday, saying that it showed Americans support the president's agenda.

"It's an 80-percent issue, people want to close down the borders," he told NPR's Rachel Martin. "It's a 70-percent issue to end chain migration. [A] 68-percent issue to end the visa lottery program and ask people to come here on merit. That's a 70-percent issue. And this is a study from Harvard."

The issue of Dreamers should not be decided without also deciding how to handle
(at the same time):

- chain migration
(eliminate it),
- Relatives of Dreamers currently taking welfare
(Deport them All, along with the Dreamers that are related to them),
- the lottery system
(Kill it)
- & E-Verify
(Initiate it and let's see some Perp Walks).

Here is a little note for those of you on the left who are kind of wondering what's wrong with your party on this subject.
It wasn't so long ago that the Democrats were the ones calling for ending illegal immigration. Google Caesar Chavez. take a look at that guys stand on the subject. Dude was a leftist labor leader and most large towns have streets named after him. He was an important figure in the Latino community, the labor movement and in liberal politics. dude was death on illegal immigration. and was not really supportive of legal immigration from places like Mexico.
Heck, just look at the Democrats in 1995. Here’s Barbara Jordan on the subject.

...the more the public hears actual debates about immigration policy, the more it sides with Trump. As I’ve been pointing out, the Democrats and the media have been drifting toward the bizarre extremist posture that the American people do not even have the democratic right to limit immigration. Why not? Because any choice of some immigrants over other immigrants would be discrimination, and thus the borders must be open to everybody not wearing an ISIS suicide belt while deplaning at JFK.

If you're hung up on sources, knock yourself out posting data that refutes my opinion.

Heck, there were 49 "sources" (out of 50) which predicted a HRC win, so one needs to select their "sources" wisely these days.

Yes, you should probably have a source.

Having an opinion is fine, and obviously a big part of participating on this site. But backing up opinions and statements with data is just as important, I'd argue. Especially if you're going to make statements with ratios.

Its amazing to see the change from a working/middle class party to a racial /sexual/gender based party . Demographic change is really the democrats way to victory. Massive racial differences in voting since 1980

You clearly didn't bother reading your own second link...? Question wording matters.

Quote:
That Harvard Harris poll didn't find that 8 in 10 Americans want to "close down the borders." Rather, it asked Americans, "Do you think we should have basically open borders or do you think we need secure borders?"

Given the choice between "open borders" — a position that no mainstream political leaders are proposing — and a "secure border," which is current U.S. policy, 79 percent of Americans agreed that the U.S. needs "secure borders."

No, I posted a npr link because its a far leftist article trying to explain away a massive difference in polling data from the bs about Americans favoring amnesty and immigration . Most Americans go much farther than politicians in wanting not only an end to Chain Migration, eliminating the Visa Lottery, and funding for a Wall

The poll found that 81% of voters want to reduce legal immigration from its current level of more than 1 million per year, and 63% want it cut by at least half.

This is not being talked about by either party. Most americans are not only virulently opposed to illegal immigration but by large margins they want legal immigration numbers returned to its much lower historical numbers

When you read blogs about legal immigration and illegal immigration than you can see that most Americans favor legal immigration but overal don't care too much for immigration issues.

This subject is a huge loss for the Democrats!

Every crime committed by an illegal is one too many and turns the entire family and friends of the victim against the illegal alien movement.

This also counts for car accidents where the victim doesn't get paid when an illegal has no insurance and is at fault or the other party is at fault and gets premium increase for hitting an illegal that never should have been here. The latter happened to someone I know and the entire family now made a 180 about their views of illegal aliens. All of them are Democrats and it took one car accident to now turn against that group as it is costing them money. The defense that they never could have hit the guy if he hadn't be here and is not allowed to be here didn't fly !

It is more difficult to gain one soul in favor of illegals than to loose a lot of support in a single second.
