So when (maybe now) will our government start taking steps about mental illness??
This has to stop, and its not a gun issue, its a mental illness issue
People use guns frequently to commit murder, mentally ill or not. Guns are the weapon of choice in the heat of anger because they are available, easy to use, and almost fool proof for any fool.
Unfortunately, if we ban semi automatic weapons, bombs will be next. People who are determined will succeed. We are raising crazies here. That’s a fact. Now I do believe semi automatic weapons have no place in the home. I am so far from a gun fanatic. Never owned one and don’t think I have ever seen one besides holstered to a cop. And the pellet gun i used to shoot at my weekend house upstate ny with my father. Used to shoot at a can lol
Point is, yes I believe semi automatic weapons should be banned for the average person. No need. A hand gun is enough protection to bear arms for protection. But I do not believe it will solve our problems. Homemade bombs will take their place. Or cars.
We have a problem in this country and it’s not all guns. It’s hate. It’s lack of morals. Lack of values. No value for life.
I understand you don't have guns, but do your realize that most handguns are "semi-automatic"
So, putting the genie back in the bottle is the solution?
Never said it was possible or practical....
But somewhere along the way we stopped bringing up kids with basic respect for others and life in general.
Mass media/ video game/ social media culture has reduced not only the necessity for basic dignity and respect towards others but it has minimized the consequences for not having it.
Look at this forum for example.
People here trade insults towards "the other side" all the time.
Not knowing anything about who they're talking to....could be some dolt halfway around the world or it could be your neighbor across the street.
Faceless interaction means we often forget that there's an actual person on the other end of the keyboard.
I'm not foolish enough to believe any law will keep my children (two younger ones that I also have to worry about) safe, even if some are more vigorously enforced. I posted earlier that the solution is not prevention, but survival. There is something nilisitically wrong with American culture, something fetid that I can't really pinpoint. The only thing I can do is shield my kids, either physically or by reducing exposure to hot spots, or emigrate elsewhere (which is a current topic of discussion at home).
Wow.
You're seriously contemplating leaving the U.S.? I don't know if we can discuss it here but I'd like to get to know the details about this.

personally I prefer edged weapons
anger issues are a mental deficiency... some people will even use vehicles
the problem is mental instability, not guns, bats, knives, bombs, or even vehicles

Not as frequent as you'd think...
