"Here's how politically tricky the gun-control debate has become: A Republican-controlled Congress might soon vote on a bill to strengthen gun-control laws in the wake of the Florida shooting, and it's the Democrats who aren't happy about it.

Even though one of their own is co-sponsoring the Fix NICS Act, which would punish federal agencies that don't submit criminal records to the national criminal background check system for firearms, Senate Democrats have spent their first few days back in Congress this week dissing the bill."

Hey libs...this kind of behavior is indefensible.
Dems don't like the bill because it's not strong enough. Need to outlaw the AR-15. Trump just wants icing.

Presidents do not make law... CONgress does.
Partisan politics notwithstanding, the glorious socialist republic created in the 1933 revolution cannot endure an armed populace.
Once people embraced the notion it was a "good thing" for government to TAKE from one to GIVE to another, it instituted a (benevolent) totalitarian police state to enforce it.
What else can one expect?
Government to wheedle "pretty please, with sugar on top"?

You get masked police, endless red tape, bureaucracy, national ID, an ID number, and intrusion into every phase of one's life. . . not to mention the violation of privacy called commercial aviation.
And once disarmament is instituted, watch how "efficient" things run - for a while.
We'll be "safe and sound." [/sarcasm]

Some interesting details. The "weapon of war" couldn't shoot out the hurricane proof windows, and eventually jammed. Also only 10 round mags were used.

GOP de-prioritized school safety. Appeasing banks is #1 priority, and then other issues. Apparently school safety is off the table for now. Kind of gives Trump the middle finger since he pushed for major gun control, but it is what it is. Not a big surprise.

Dems don't like the bill because they're hypocrites. Only the ignorant think banning the AR15 will accomplish anything at all.

Of course, there's the look that they can't get over. It looks like the M-16 but of course does not function the same. Hey, I've seen a Kia that's a dead ringer for a Mercedes model so I guess that means they're the same too, right?

Please. You do not ban the AR-15. You ban all auto loading devices which meet certain specs. If you really want to do it right you ban all self loaders. That still leaves lots of weapons but gets rid of all those suited to rapid fire. And an all out ban is not needed. You can allow people to buy and possess auto loaded devices where they have a demonstrated need.

I would also think you go after all weapons with removable magazines.

At that point you have enough stuff left to take care of self protection, hunting and sports shooting.
But you have made it much more difficult to shoot 58 people from a hotel window.

Will it stop gun deaths in the US? Of course not. But it may cut it in half or more over time.

Gun laws now being put up in many states, including Fl, that lets anyone you know go to a judge ex parte’ and tell the cops to come and take your guns away.

First, that's semiautomatic guns and accounts for about 90% of guns which is, in almost any measure, a ban of guns. Second, demonstrated need??? How about you provide me with a demonstrated need to vote. After all, voting for the wrong person can be dangerous. Can even lead to peoples' deaths. I'm sure you would agree to that common sense regulation, right?

Unless it also includes due process, that won't last long via the courts.
