I put 5 kids through private schools and colleges and I just wrote a check for private kindergarten for my oldest grandchild with a commitment to pay for all my grandchildren’s private education. That’s how important it is to our family.
It's been happening since the late 60's and has been gathering steam ever since and IMO has reached an apex.

Common good? How much are you donating to the common good personally? If you aren’t willing to put your money where your mouth is, that is hypocrisy.
I donate in several ways; to a local charity that provides adult daycare for Alzheimer patients so that they family caregivers can still work for a living; drive people to the voter registration office to register to vote, and also to actually do their voting. I give money (gasp! What a freakin' liberal thing to do!) annually during the PBS fund raising. I just donated some of my business products to my local Relay for Life team to sell at a craft show to raise money for that. I even have (gasp! yet another freakin' liberal thing - teaching people to speak English! What a hater of the USA this person must be!) been a volunteer teacher of English to foreign-born military dependents. Oh - and I am a veteran of the US Air Force.
There are other things, but you get the idea. So, I don't just put my money where my mouth is - I have actually done WORK for the common good. How about you? What do you do towards the common good personally?

Y'know what... there is a difference between being a child and being an adult. Some things, like drinking alcohol and voting - and, by extension, buying certain other things - need to wait until a person is an adult. Children have not had their rights taken away, they just need to wait until they are adults to be able to do certain things. Are you one of those people who would also do away with "the age of consent" for marriage so that young girls can be married?
