...and we have the most expensive health care system in the world. So, then, what exactly are we paying for? Insurance companies and incompetence? Ineffectiveness? Any thoughts as to why we should not have UHC like every other developed nation in the world...?

Not including new treatments, US produces more new medicines than the rest of world combined. In another word, the rest of the world rake in all the health benefits but contribute very little, and US is funding their health care.
Also most "developed world" rely on US to provide national defense - they would all be dead without US.

Great news life, now how many In this country can afford it?
We have great treatments, medicines, etc. but a good portion of the population can't afford to access care. Even with insurance, a heath crisis can bankrupt a family. Our medicine is good, but our system deserves to be ranked as the worst in the developed world.

Innovation has more to do with intellectual property laws and R&D by the public and private sector. There's no reason why single-payer hurts innovation.

Good point!
Let's get the government more involved that it already is.

You must have never seen the glory of socialism!
What incentive the government has to treat you better? None!
Other countries have figured out a much better balance of their crony capitalist/socialist health care theft schemes.
Agreed there.
The answer isn't to tweak the collectivist scheme some more...it's to abolish it.
Ah yes, the ANCAP solution
An entirely free market healthcare system would undoubtedly exclude parts of the population. How would complicated/expensive treatments be made affordable to lower income citizens?
Better yet, let's back the truck up here... explain your libertarian fantasy healthcare system to us. I'm really curious how it would solve all of the problems plaguing our current system.
