The Trump administration has decided to end a temporary program that allows 57,000 Hondurans to live and work in the United States, three people familiar with the plans told McClatchy.
Hondurans who came to the United States after Hurricane Mitch devastated their country in 1998 will be given 12 to 18 months to return to their native county or seek another form of legal residency.
The Department of Homeland Security will announce the program’s end as early as Friday afternoon. Officials there are expected to say conditions in Honduras have improved enough for people to return, though some have lived in the United States for two decades.
Some people don't understand the definition of temporary. They have had a long time to prepare. Maybe these folks will have a positive effect on their own country when they return. If not, it's their problem not ours.
Finally.. so sick of this asylum bullcrap...OK, if your running from a war or persecution...Then OK but this temporary status for 50 years has got to stop....
People have been taking advantage of our lax immigration laws for decades.
Well, this was partly Congress's doing when they designated certain countries for TEMPORARY Protected Status. Honduras was designated in 1999 and El Salvador in 2001. Both programs are being terminated. El Sal's government is reportedly ready to accept their people back, Honduras may be taking a little longer. I believe both countries officially terminate in 2019. Yes, it was supposed to be temporary and the recipients of our generosity knew it.
18 months to leave? WTH what's wrong with 6 months?
I'll presume so they can't say 'you haven't given us enough time,' and we can say 'oh yes we did.' Remember, some of these people actually own homes and businesses here and - the big one - have US citizen children! If they are actually going to leave, they do need time to prepare. If they have children, their IN will be to apply for LPR status through the kid, but I think the kid has to be 18. That, or they marry a US citizen. They don't have many options to find a way to stay here legally.
And you can be sure NOT 1 SINGLE HONDURAN will leave
I agree, it’s 18 months for them to go on the run.
But, ICE will inevitably track some of them down. And when they do, liberals will be in no position to cry that they weren’t given enough time to get their affairs in order.
They were here for 2 decades. It’s not America’s job to be the babysitter of 2nd and 3rd world countries. We did our job, we have the highest immigration percentage of any country on earth.

Agreed. Eighteen months means if you don't already have an anchor baby, or your anchors are legally adults by now, start making another one.
