Some people don't understand the definition of temporary. They have had a long time to prepare. Maybe these folks will have a positive effect on their own country when they return. If not, it's their problem not ours.

So only white people are capable of fulfilling legal immigration requirements such as English fluency, passing the civics/history test, bringing enough skills and education to contribute to society, and willingness to assimilate. Interesting that you think that way
Who's saying that? American-blacks deserve the same fair wages as whites do and they shouldn't have to compete with foreigners for jobs in their own country either.
Where are blacks competing with undocumented immigrants ? What American is going to do that kind of work in 2018? That's nuts. Try getting some young white or black kid or ANY American born kid to go buff tables, wash dishes or pick fruit . It ain't happening.
This is why the US should never do this temporary status stuff again, when it ends, people cry and whine over it. So hell with it, just stop doing it since so many people seem to take issue when it ends.
It starts out as something good, to give assistance, then it turns into some long-term, "we forgot about it", status where no one ever returns voluntarily no matter how well the situation improved. The hurricane was 20 years ago, goodness, the place has recovered long, long ago from the storm.
We can’t help everyone in the world, but if they’ve already been here that long why must we make them go? The point is to make sure it doesn’t continue to happen, not to get rid of people who’ve been here so long. Maybe the 18 month grace period is so the message can get out to discourage this practice in the future, but in the end those people will get to stay. I hope so.
If they’ve been here those many years being gang bangers or commiting crimes, then they should go, but everyone else should stay.
It's not surprisingly that people who've been here twenty years would fight to stay, but if we don't return them home--all of them--that sets a precedent where everyone who experiences a natural disaster can come here and never leave.

I did, all throughout high school and the early part of college. It was that or starve.

The US still has far more foreign born people than any other country. And as I said, by a landslide. It’s not even close.
We have more immigrants in the US than the entire population of Canada.
20% of the entire world’s foreign born population are in the USA.
So what does that say about NPR and other sources like it?
I read it very carefully and could only deduce from your offering that it was an attempt to prove the U.S. is doing more than it's share or being asked to accept an unfair burden.
The fact that a per-capita comparison more accurately reflects what burden or effort is being accepted or made on their behalf seems lost on some.
Are you seriously suggesting that the U.S. has 20% of the world's entire population not born in the U.S. ("foreign born") living in the U.S. ..........WTF????? That would be roughly 1 billion, 457 million, 200 thousand people you're sharing your Starbucks with. Surely you meant 20% of those who migrate or immigrants per-se......er.......didn't you?
Unemployment is at 3.9%. Anyone who wants a job can get one. No reason to kick these people out and essentially issue them a death sentence except to continue the culture war in this country.
