Many (not all) of these folks are really non-skilled and many are barely literate. Frankly, they are ignorant. They have been here for decades, still don't speak our language, and have/had no intention of assimilating, trying to stay here permanently, (fill in the blank). They continue to apply for and are granted extensions (half the time not even having to pay the fee for the application) and on and on they roll. They have US children who become eligible for publicly funded benefits (a whole 'nother discussion) and they stay, virtually living off the American taxpayer. HOW IS THIS FAIR? Yes, they can work because under these programs they are authorized to work here, but many don't. It is an untenable situation and I support the President for at least trying to get a handle on it.
When did we become such a cold hardened country. This is not what our country is about. Our country was always loving and accepting. This is why we have always been considered the greatest...the land of opportunity. But with Trump we will become a third world country since some of the best and brightest come from other countries.
The best and brightest typically come here legally. If they are really that bright, they know how to fill out the proper paperwork and wait their turn, which shouldn’t be too long if they are truly the “best and brightest”.

Yeah, I was thinking the same: Why so long? It doesn't take 18 months to get your affairs in order. Then I read that one guy got a $300,000 loan for a business and I thought, "Well, it might take that long" but you know what? They set up camp here thinking it was going to be permanent despite the word "temporary" in their status.
On the one hand, I do feel a little bad for them because I think politicians of the past have led them to believe that even though it said "temporary", it was understood not to be so. With that, many of them built a life here, like that one guy with the business that I read about.
On the other hand, we can't help everyone in the world. We simply cannot. We gave them a place when their country was a mess due to natural disaster or some other reason, but now it's time to go back. This country will crush under the weight of "helping" if we allow every single person on this planet with a sob story to come here and stay here. We can't afford it. We don't have the resources - natural resources, especially. You cannot pack more people into an area than resources can provide for, yet we keep doing it, and we keep having disastrous results.
So, bye. Time to go home. Build your business there. And do something in your own country to make it better. Running away doesn't solve anything.
We can’t help everyone in the world, but if they’ve already been here that long why must we make them go? The point is to make sure it doesn’t continue to happen, not to get rid of people who’ve been here so long. Maybe the 18 month grace period is so the message can get out to discourage this practice in the future, but in the end those people will get to stay. I hope so.
If they’ve been here those many years being gang bangers or commiting crimes, then they should go, but everyone else should stay.
I agree, it’s 18 months for them to go on the run.
But, ICE will inevitably track some of them down. And when they do, liberals will be in no position to cry that they weren’t given enough time to get their affairs in order.
They were here for 2 decades. It’s not America’s job to be the babysitter of 2nd and 3rd world countries. We did our job, we have the highest immigration percentage of any country on earth.
We don’t have the highest immigration percentage of any country on earth. We don’t even have the highest one in North America.
Promised by whom and why would most conservatives want a whiter country? Typical race card pulling by the liberal left. It's getting old. This has nothing to do with race. These Hondurans were told it would be temporary and now it's time to go back home. Most legal immigrants are not white these days either.
