How about a tax? They pay robots like they pay people but it goes to ubiversal basic income.
So it would twist their hnd ibto huring people probably. Hopefully.
What day is this? 1900? We had this discussion already.
Your parents were saying the same thing before you were even born.
Adapt. Humans are very good at it, as long as the government does not get in the way. The problem is, most of you young socialists WANT the government to step in and protect you. That will be your downfall. Government protection and Political Correctness are the opposites of adaptation, and very dangerous when considered from a long-term point of view.
Please study some history. If you don't, the pure socialism you are craving will be your undoing as our society crumbles and other not-so-nice countries step in to take over. It is a cycle that has been repeated over and over throughout history, but your ultra-liberal public education didn't teach you that.
How do you feel about automation? There has always been tasks being automated. This has gone on for thousands of years since someone first created a water wheel so a machine could do the job of many people faster and easier.
And is it a good reason for universal basic income? No, it never has been and never will be.
Or u think we can fight automation? Absurd, of course not. Do you want to harvest crops by hand? Of course not.

Another HUGE difference today though, they have measures in place that suppress any technology that could potentially present a threat to any large existing industry or the Govts ability to exert its authority.
So, when something comes along that is more effective than the locomotive, or motor vehicle, people will never even hear about it, the tech is squashed or classified, never to see the light of day.
This explains why there have been no HUGE or major groundbreaking inventions recently, we are kept at a tech plateau on purpose.
It doesn't do much good to close the gate once the horse is gone, now does it? If you are in a fighting mood, you are going to have to invent a time machine and start your fight right around the early to mid-eighteenth century. There, you may even be able to find some Luddites to join in your cause.

You'll have to go back further than that. Eli Whitney patented the cotton gin in 1793. There is evidence of a cotton gin in use by the 5th century. I'm sure that cost a few jobs, didn't it?
That's just one of millions of examples, I'm sure. Automation is the least of our worries as a society.
In fact, to the OP, in a way I argue just the opposite. I believe we have crossed the point of no return -- we can't go back to horses and buggies and survive. The only thing that can save us at this point is technology.
