And the state's fiscal situation improved under Jerry Brown and after the Republicans lost their power to stalemate the budget. Kind of refutes all the rants of the haters, eh?

False, and misguided speculation on the future. It got worse in the last 5-6 years under D leadership. The worst deal in CA history and the origin of much of our problems was signed in by Gray Davis. Arnold was a dud and was tied down by D's.

I take an opinion and vote on each issue independently, not because there's an R or D associated with it.

Arnold was more a RINO versus a Republican

First and foremost, California will not elect a Republican governor because Republicans have shown themselves to be anti-environment. California, with its beautiful coastline, cares very very much for the environment and works with Washington and several other blue states to adhere to the goals of the Paris agreement. All Newsom has to do is bring up the environment during every debate and watch Cox try to defend what Trump and the GOP are doing. All he has to do is ask why the GOP wants to increase air pollution by reducing automobile pollution standards. The GOP has gone all in with their anti-environmental rhetoric and standards. Californians will never put up with that.

Ca needs a change of leadership. John Cox may be the only hope at this point. It will only get worse with Newsom. I wouldn't even buy a used car from that guy.

Leftist Californians do nothing but virtue signal while they use more electricity and pump more CO2 into the atmosphere than anyone else. Let's talk about those amazing coastlines, like where people build homes on the sides of a cliff to later have it slide down and create a giant garbage pile at the bottom. Yeah, they really care lol.

Foamers gotta foam. Maybe if the rethugs could come up with a candidate with actual ideas for governance rather than a mike pence lite, they might get some traction

The only other thing knee-jerk thing they do is to always be looking to cut taxes, no matter what.

Arnold came in and the first thing he did was to cut the automobile registration fee. Helped blow a hole in the state's fiscal situation, and hurt the condition of the state's roadways (which were partially funded from these fees). We can be seeing a repeat of the same with the initiative to cut the gas tax here.

There are more people sick of both parties who are independents. They will be the kingmakers. Cox talking about lower taxes, ending sanctuary state status, making the business climate more friendly to small businesses and not just mega corporations, getting rid of vagrants and drug addicts who contribute to rising crime, will appeal to everyone.

Newsom will talk about raising everyone's taxes and giving the money to vagrants and illegals in free services.

But... even if Cox wins, there is the corrupt Dem legislature and cronyism.
