In a usual vague but attacking tweet Trump took to attacking Canada's trade tariffs on farmed goods, claiming he's working on behalf of the farmers.
I have searched, googled, looked for and can't find ANYWHERE that USA farmers are asking Trump to intercede with trade with Canada.
Can someone help with that?
I'm not talking about the retaliation tariffs -- that's new and hasn't been 'hurting' the USA farmers.
Trump is most definitely implying that USA farmers are struggling because they have blocked trade with Canada but I can't find anything to suggest that (blocked for economic reasons of course).
Seems like some of you look for anything to disagree about. Then you make up a tangent and then expect everyone to argue for or against that tangent....anyway...
from what I read in his tweet it says
"Canada charges the US a 270% tariff on Dairy Products! They didn't tell you that, did they? Not fair to our farmers!"

"Throughout U.S. farm country, where Trump has enjoyed strong support, tariffs on steel and aluminum imports are boosting costs for equipment and infrastructure and causing some farmers and agricultural firms to scrap purchases and expansion plans, according to Reuters’ interviews with farmers, manufacturers, construction firms and food shippers."
It's true, however like many things, it's a bit more nuanced. For nearly 50 years Canada has had a production cap on dairy products. This has guaranteed some cost certainty for the dairy farmers, and establishes the market.
US dairy farmers are subsidized, but have no production cap, which results in a fair bit of oversupply. So Canada places a tariff on the price of some US dairy products to protect their own farmers.

But the U.S. enjoys a half a billion trade surplus in milk trade with Canada. Canada buys more American milk than the obverse. So unfair.....reeallly, reaaallly unfair,....bigly unfair.
