It's an insightful article, but it misses a crucial point: the "free marketeer" Republicans want free-trade. They (OK, we) abhor tariffs in particular, and paeans to national identity in general. They (we) want an open world, where goods, services, labor and capital move transnationally. This is because they (we) derive most of their (our) income from investments.

This also presents the Democrats with their best message for 2020. "Like free trade? Hate capricious imposition of taxes and boundaries? Vote Democratic"!

There is a medical theory that some people can be entranced as long as the voice keeps speaking. It doesn't matter what the voice is saying, just so long as it is continuing to speak.

There is no doubt that most patriots would object to the dotards behavior as president. Cozying up to Russia, Dutarte and other dictators; disregard for our military and national services; raping the government; destroying jobs; killing the environment; banging prostitutes; destroying our allies; and gutting our government would be things real Americans would find objectionable.

But they don't, because he keeps yammering day after day with all sorts of nonsensical statements. It's not WHAT he says, obviously, but that he just keeps SAYING.

Very true. And he uses very simple words with a very simple vocabulary. He says a lot of "them" and "losers" about more than half the country. He wants our tax dollars to give to these people but he insults more than half the country constantly and makes clear he only represents his base and no one else.

The Republicans in Congress are terrified of him and will never stop him from doing ANYTHING because he has allowed them to control all aspects of American government. With that kind of power, they will let Trump shoot someone on 5th Avenue and they are fine with it. Evangelicals obsessed with abortion think Trump is the second coming and even if he did cheat on his pregnant wife with a porn star, they are good with it.

Trump country that was furious about auto bailouts are slurping up the farmer welfare like it's a taxpayer buffet, which it is. They don't care where the money comes from as long as it's going in to their pockets. And corporations that screamed about debt and deficits when it came to health care, are totally fine with the exploding debt and deficits after Trump's tax plan was passed.

This is what Trump's support is all about. He's taken a few select demographics, paid the off in money or policy, and every single thing they screamed about before is perfectly fine with them now.

we really read very differently

The writer made no such claim. In fact the writer clearly indicated that republican voters voted for him primarily because the other option was so far off politically.

see that last word? I cut the rest of it because once I read to that point, I stopped. I stopped because that was the point that I realized you had nothing valuable to say.

What you don't get is THIS is why we don't listen to anything you have to say. THIS is why the left keeps losing. You really do think you are saying cool stuff but what we hear is just an empty head rattling about really dumb things.

you need to read that article 15 or 20 times. It was written by a liberal trying to be objective. the writer made some good points... at least up to the point I had to cut out and go back to work....

will finish the article later. but seriously. the options are simple. Trump or you. what you fail to understand is, that as bad as you see Trump....we see you and your ideology as far worse. Not because we love Trump. Shoot, gimme a guy committed to conservative principles that doesn't go off the rails and im all in.

but Trump off the rails is still vastly less radical, less dangerous and less anit-American than what the left has become in the last 10 years.

yall don't even know how far you went.

what liberal dont get is, they judge trump on 100% of his personality, they want to impeach him on his personality. as conservatives, we already know hes an a hole. conservative judge trump on what he has done, his actions. we already know hes an a hole. he can be all the a hole he wants as long as economy good, employment high, taxes are low and business is good.

that something liberals cant understand, they will worship a crooked lawyer turn politician and burn at the stake, a proven businessman doing business things.

Let’s just be fair, Trump barely got into power within a few percentage points in 3 states and lost the popular vote.

He doesn’t represent a wave.
