According to a database maintained by the Washington Post, as of 7/9 of this year 591 people been have been shot and killed by on-duty police officers this year so far. Of those 591 people, 113 were black, 237 were white, 81 were Hispanic. This means that less than 1/4 of those shot and killed were black.
Watching the mainstream media, you would think that only blacks are shot and killed by police!

Why are some people so concerned with trying to downplay the societal concerns of minority groups? It's like they're obsessed with trying to prove that blacks, Hispanics, gays, etc don't ever face any adversity and that their issues aren't real to THEM.

Want a real eye opener...take those numbers and compute them as a percentage of police interactions, which will give you the probability of being shot and killed by a police officer. What you'll find is that non-Hispanic Whites have a higher probability of a police interaction ending in fatality than either blacks or Hispanics.
Plenty of studies done on this various topic since the "#handsupdontshoot nonsense in Ferguson. All come to the same conclusion based on the same data. There is no "war on unarmed, innocent black people" and whites are slightly more likely to die at the hands of police AS A PERCENTAGE OF INTERACTIONS and in raw totals, than are blacks.
So yes, it is a myth perpetuated by media. One of the top 10 myths of the last decade by my guess.
what is the pctg. of African Americans in the US, careful now...statistics are hard
The better question is how many were justified. If someone is trying to end your life, or put someone's life in danger, it doesn't matter what color they are. The vast majority of children that are black being born out of wedlock. If a child is only raised by 1 parent, it significantly increases the probability of not being capable to graduate high school, being involved in crime, and ending up in jail. Instead of establishing a victim narrative, how about we find ways in empowering black neighborhoods instead of virtue signaling towards denouncing cops? It's human nature to imitate the environment you're born into. A lot of these kids are being exposed to plenty of convicts who they look up too, and there's countless signs of disrepair and neglect within communities such as South side Chicago and Baltimore. Place the burden on politicians, media, and parents, instead of cops who are put in charge to attempt to clean up the mess. I'm not saying they're without sin, but this approach ends up hurting the very people you're trying to help...

Because those societal concerns are shared by the white majority, who are increasingly disdained under the assumption that such concerns do not apply to them.
Every adversity faced by minority groups is faced by non-gay whites every single day, but nobody is allowed to say that publicly, lest they be exiled and ostracized.
Here is the societal concern - that the armed agents of the faceless thugocracy kill citizens and damn near always end up exonerated and back on the street. WHO got killed by these centurion attack dogs of the tyrannical elite is irrelevant to the point that the entire system is setup to allow and even encourage such naked abuse of power.
That's the problem with all these "my side suffers more than your side" discussions - they miss the point that the system makes everyone suffer and has the capacity and authorization to make that suffering fatal. You're so caught up in trying to prove your slice of cake is smaller than a white person's slice that you neglected to notice the baker put arsenic and cyanide in the freaking batter for everyone eating the freaking cake. Get it? We all die, and the tyrant counts the loot.
I am not downplaying societal concerns of minorities, I am shouting from the rooftops that EVERYONE suffers the same societal concerns whether the rent seekers care to understand that or not.

The welfare state creates this. There is too much incentive to not work and not stay married. Why stay together and raise kids when government welfare will?
