Any cop who is unable to disarm a slow moving 87 year old woman without force is too incompetent--and therefore too dangerous--to be a cop. It's really pathetic that this even needs to be said.
Sadly, it does need to be said although it normally goes without saying.
Can you imagine your 87 year old mom or grandmother with dementia being tased by the cops? I’d come f*#•^#g unglued. Just the thought of it enrages me. They’d end up tasing or shooting my ass when I’m done.
I'd have to say yes-after reading the article, rather than just reading the manipulative headline. Calls about her from concerned citizens to 911, she continues to approach police officers with a deadly weapon, in spite of being told multiple times not to-and to drop the weapon. Had they tried to physically take it from her, someone could and likely would have been hurt. The police used less-than-lethal force against someone with a deadly weapon. They acted with restraint.

Yeah, that little old lady was a deadly threat to those poor terrified cops. Seriously, do you want cops on the job who are so unskilled at their jobs and so deficient in their capabilities that they need to tase a little old lady picking dandelions? That's the level of competence you want our LE to display?
Ridiculous. These fraidy cat cops need to be relieved of their guns and badges. They are a disgrace to the uniform.

Restraint is using a taser on an 87 year old woman with dementia who’s out cutting dandelions?
That’s restraint? What if tasing her had killed her? Can the cops do ANYTHING wrong in your book?

The US has a different legal threshold in terms of force to many other countries.
In Europe force should be a last resort and the amount of force used must also be reasonable and proportionate, whilst the degree of force used must be the minimum required in the circumstances, otherwise, it is likely that the use of force will be excessive and unlawful, and would therefore not adhere to the European Convention on Human Rights.
I wouldn't have thought tasering a 5 ft 2 inch 87 year old was a last resort, indeed they could have just taken the knife off her if need be, and it should be noted that police have protective clothing and vests, as well as specialist training in terms of de-esculating situations.

Yes indeed, good, level-headed points!
What I can't understand is when a cop is sitting in his vehicle and has to shoot some kid like in the Laquan McDonald case in 2014...
Why can't you remain in your car if they are wielding a knife and you are so afraid for your "safety" that you have to get out of the safety of your vehicle to shoot the kid?

Yes, but watch the video (post #186), the officer in Seattle who shot the woodcarver crossing the street. The officer was found to have acted in accord with training, and was exonerated. He eventually decided to resign anyway.
