Political Tribe are Republicans under Trump.
Family is the inner circle of those Republicans that protect the Presidents secrets to keep their $$ and power status.
The rest of us are on the outside.
Talk about a content-free, off topic, and thread derailing response.
I'm happy that my immediate family as well as my kids' inlaws are all liberal. Not far left wing but definitely liberal leaning and all oppose Trump and all he stands for.
Tribalism only exists in political parties, and this Administration behaves like a mafia family.
The rest of us are on the outside.
Thank you for the opportunity to clarify.
One of the dumbest and incorrect statements I've read. Many groups of people are tribalist particularly the democrat base and bring that into the party.

Oh. It s the "Republican" reference that is off topic for you.
No, I can't imagine that, but none of my family is militant about anything.
My sister and I are opposite political parties and that's never been a problem because we are both pretty middle of the road.
I JUST found out she thought I voted and supported someone else, so never brought up politics.
We had a good laugh.

I always hear this term thrown around, but what would "disowning" entail anyway? People don't "own" people, so how can you "disown" somebody?
I suppose if you're a parent and you want to "disown" one of your kids after they've grown up, you could simply exclude them from your will, and maybe not talk to them. That's about the closest I can think of. Otherwise, when you're talking about siblings or other family members, claiming you've "disowned" one of them is really a pretty meaningless term. All you can really do is cease talking to them.
You're being too literal with the word "own."
Why do we "kick the bucket" when we die?
Why do we click the "start" button to turn off the computer (this one is dated , but still applies)?
Why do we drive on "parkways" and park on "driveways"?
Where would we "take a bus/cab/subway/trolley,etc.", and why?
Why would we "get on a plane" as opposed to getting in it?
Why do we need hot water heaters when we don't need to heat hot water?
Have you disowned family members, or been disowned by your family because you belong to the wrong party?
It seems to me the divisiveness is bad enough to destroy relationships.
Actually, it has happened in my family. A couple of liberals have disowned all of us conservatives because we support Trump and disagree with the policies of the Democrats. They are siblings not cousins, etc. We would never disown them for their political views though even though we disagree with them. Now just who are the adults in all of this?
