Denial is a natural reaction to news you don't like. As I really have no dog in the fight, I don't really care who wins the mid-terms. I'd kinda like to see the Democrats lose massively because it would force them to make themselves better, but only kinda.
But the Democrats do need to start caring about the violence on their own side. Only one side getting away with it is a fine recipe for disaster and massive violent escalation.
How many Democrats have been assaulted or hospitalized in the last 30 days by attacks from the Right? I'm counting 12 times where the Left was guilty. That's not even counting vandalism, intentional destruction of property or incitement to violence. "Cleanse the inner vessel" and "cast the beam out of thine own eye" is still profoundly good advice two thousand years later.

You have the far Left beating the ever living crap out of people in the streets and most often the authorities do nothing about it.
Chasing down every car with mean words on it isn't exactly a priority. Mostly a giant waste of time for the cops and courts. A whole lot of people on the Left would get arrested including about half the celebrities in Hollywood if we started making violent rhetoric a jailable offense.
The reason the guy got caught as fast as he did is probably because he has a rap sheet a mile long. That's the real indicator. Trouble is, you can't just keep a guy in prison forever for crimes short of murder.
