I like some of Will Hurd's ideas on the matter. The title of his opinion piece sums it up: "We need a smart border wall, not a 3rd century solution"

Somebody needs to come up with a compromise to end this pissing contest stalemate.

Let the person who has not benefitted from or used illegals be the first.

Most of the houses built in Texas form the early 70s on used illegal labor. The chicken and fish we buy at the supermarket was dressed by illegals. The stores we shop in, the offices we work in and visit have been cleaned by illegals, I know for a fact since the 60s.

Get real, people.

The Dreamers need to go back to their homelands with their law breaking parents so there is no separation of families unless you are suggesting that the parents get to remain here also. Kids shouldn't benefit from their parent's law breaking either. We don't need the competition for jobs and resources from 1.8 million Dreamers against Americans. Isn't it bad enough that their parents have done so? Americans need their jobs back!

Only those who hire illegals benefit from the cheap labor while the rest of us get the shaft to the tune of over $100 billion dollars a year for their social costs.

Who asked illegals to steal Americans jobs? Certainly not law abiding regular Americans. All those jobs you mentioned should have been done by Americans for a fair wage. Who do you think were doing them before millions of cheap illegals flooded our border? We're not dependent on them for anything nor do we owe them any thanks. What about the rule of law and our immigration laws? Does that mean nothing to you? Most of these illegals are felons by stealing SS numbers to work or worked for cash evading taxes and for that we should be grateful and give them amnesty instead? They also send billions back to their homelands not spent in our economy. They have overcrowded our schools, jails, hospitals, roads and neighborhoods. I guess we should be grateful for that to?

Why are you bringing up the Dreamers and their parents under this topic anyway? This topic is about the wall and trying to prevent more illegals from entering our country.

You're the one who needs to get real!!!

Exactly. I knew of highly educated people who are waiting years to immigrate, especially when they have no other family member in the US.

Exactly. They got an education (sometimes even college) paid for by Americans. Time to go home and make their country better.

THAT, my friend, is the major difference between your team and ours. We see them as humans, your side sees them as a problem.

Really?

You mean your team . . . the team that is in bed with teacher's unions that have stymied education reform for decades and have Dems in their back pockets to push their agendas, something that has had devastating and disproportionate impacts on black and Latino communities?

And that same team who, in an effort to pander to votes (let's face it . . . they were just as hawkish on this issue just a few short years ago . . . just watch the old videos of Hillary and Bill), are appropriating funds for people who have no right to be here (and, who, the law in facts say should be deported), thus decreasing the already limited pot for those who do have a right to be here.

Your side sees them as a meal ticket to future votes.

Back in January, Schumer offered Trump up to $20 billion in exchange for the Dreamers. Discussion went nowhere.

Illegals don’t steal jobs. They are hired by US people/ businesses because they are willing to work harder for less $.

When you get right down to it, most folk don’t care who is working in the kitchen, harvesting crops, packing meat, hanging roofs, or much of anything else so long as it’s cheap. They don’t care the clothes on their back and shoes on their feet were made in Viet Nam, Bangladesh or India. They don’t care where the toaster was made. They don’t care their artificial Christmas’s tree, lights, ornaments, wreaths, greeting cards, wrap and all the presents were made elsewhere. And they certainly don’t care that the ingredients for their holiday dinners likely were sourced by illegals.

Illegal immigration became a tidal wave in the 80’s. Has not mattered who sat the oval or who held the majority, they all kicked the can.

For crying out loud, only a handful of state mandate e-Verify.

They don't cost us $100 billion a year. Continually repeating that doesn't make it true.

"Two days after the 2017 FAIR report was published Nowrasteh authored a critique that estimated the cost of illegal immigration was between $3.3 billion and $15.6 billion annually. The Cato report focuses on correcting what they say are false assumptions and mistakes in the FAIR study, such as rate of health care use."
