Well, no, because there is a lot of game left, but he certainly has not won anything either.

A shutdown was always a bad idea on substance, but I stongly suspect that he did it so that he could claim that he played all of his cards, and now has to declare an emergency. There is a new group heading to the border, conveniently coinciding with the state of the planned union address, where he can make his case.

Then the Dems will start legal challenges.

Going to be interesting. But no, nothing won or lost yet on either side.

I think this is a temporary Democratic win that will give some relief to a lot of people who have been suffering. But obviously, the issue isn't over. I think it is too strong to say Trump lost and the Dems won. I think it did give us some pretty good evidence that Trump is NOT the great negotiator or deal maker he brags about being, and that this battle of wills has diminishes his power. We will see what happens over the next 3 weeks. I don't think it is appropriate for Democrats to gloat or claim victory, but they have been given a boost. Remember that a declaration of emergency can be countermanded by the courts or by Congress.

This is OPTICS...Trump knows that, just as in every other instance, the Dems will think they have their way and have won. They will now feel even more powerful to reneg on wall negotiations as expected. Remember this reopening is temporary. Trump will not get the Dems to negotiate...he doesn't expect to but will seem like he's exasperated at trying.

That's when he will pull out the big guns, exclaim a national emergency at the SOTU address and show that he's done everything he could to negotiate with the spoiled brat dems and that he now has no other choice.

Enjoy the show...MAGA!
I don't know why you're seeing it this way. Right now I'm very disappointed in President Trump. Now the liberals will make more and more demands not just on the border but on other issues including forcing expanded abortion and more Planned Parenthood funding and their push to socialist medicine.

I would have preferred for Trump to go the scorched earth route and keep the government shutdown indefinitely regardless of the damage (even if all air traffic is grounded), , because if the far left isn't kept in check both in terms of border security and in general, we won't have a country anymore anyway.

Now we see the liberal elites in the media gloat and Schumer and Pelosi with those smug faces. I still support Trump over the Democrats but I do think that we let the enemy win this time. Now the illegal alien hordes will be even more emboldened as they invade our nation. And yes I'm allowed to say this because I am the son of LEGAL immigrants of color.

They can gloat all they want. Trump actually cares about the people that the shutdown is affecting. The Demoncrats don't...but don't worry...this just shows the American people that Trump has no choice but to declare an emergency...he will get what he wants and make the Dems look bad in the process.

FWIW, you could say what you said even if you weren't what you are...stop falling for the Left's tactics of division...that somehow because of your looks, you have more or less of a right to say or do anything. This is what Trump is trying to bring back to this country...that we are all great and all equal...not like the left's view that some are more equal than others.

We shall see, won't we? BTW, how many of the left's gloatfests have actually panned out and not blown up in their faces in the end? I lost count at zero...

Trump didn't lose anything.

By accepting a continuing resolution, he is showing he's trying to move pieces on the board and negotiate. He's changing the dynamic because now he appears to be the one willing to accept a small loss to ease the hardships on 800,000 federal employees, while pelosi and her drones sit smugly on their butts and prove to the American people that showing up the President is more important than taking care of the country.

President Trump just out maneuvered them, and they're too full of themselves to see it.

Now in 3 weeks when the dems smugly refuse to negotiate or do their jobs because "they won", they ignore the fact Trump outmaneuvered them so they will be responsible for forcing him to declare an emergency and build the wall for national security, and perhaps a second shut down, and since the government is running again, he can use the State of the Union speech, in the house chamber, to call out the dems on their unwillingness to do anything to serve the American people.

Pelosi and co just got served, and they're too stupid to see they played right into his trap.

This guy is good.

Unfrotuatately I don't see it this way. There's now no wall funding, no money for border security at all, and nothing to stop the Democrats in Congress from pushing legalization and citizenship for the DACA recipients and other illegal aliens living in the U.S, nothing to stop them from giving the DACA recipients citizenship and allowing them to sponsor their illegal parents, hence rewarding these illegal parents for their crimes. They care nothing about preserving our country or protecting American culture from people who have no interest in adopting American culture or assimilating into our society. The liberals live in their own elite bubbles and rarely have to deal with illegals directly. I see how most of them don't consider themselves Americans, are not loyal to this country, support Mexico over the US and refuse to speak English or adopt any aspect of American culture. In fact the Mexicans living in America despise our country and culture.
