Apples and oranges. Surrendering to Trump's pet project, poorly conceived and poorly planned and clumsy and time consuming as it is, has nothing to do - or should have nothing to do - with keeping the government shut down for one man's ego. Despite his recent comments about his "absolute right", he is not the emperor of the United States. Shoot, America hasn't even had a king since George III, and even he didn't have absolute powers, not even over the American colonies way back when. But it was his assumption of unwarranted power that led to his ousting from these shores, and Trump would do well to learn by his example.
Trump's pet project? He just wants the wall funded and built that was approved by congress back in 2006 with Schumer and Obama's signature on it. Why do you have a problem with that?

This has been explained countless times. Surprising that you are still so clueless.
Trump didn't give a damn about this wall for two years. Now all of a sudden he has created a "crisis" as a distraction.
While I certainly consider this a "Trump Shutdown" (after all, he literally told Schumer and Pelosis, on the record, that it would be his responsibility), I am now moving the blame meter towards Senator Mitch McConnell.
It is shameful that Mr. McConnell will not allow any Senate vote on any House bill, including the one is exactly the same that the Senate passed, just before Christmas, 100-0.
It is curious. I suppose that Mr. McConnell is planning to run for his seat again in 2020, and that he is terrified of offending Mr. Trump's vaulted 'base'.
Haven't read much of this thread and I am sure someone ese also said it is NOT Trump's gov't shutdown.
It is shumer's and pelosi's because they REFUSE to sit down and negotiate.
That's not the consensus of a majority of people polled on the issue
Quote:
A Washington Post-ABC News poll released on Sunday followed trends in previous polling when it showed 53% of respondents saying Trump and Republicans in Congress were to blame for the shutdown, with 29% blaming Democrats and 13% a combination. https://www.washingtonpost.com/polit...=.de8c9a08fdb9
For the professional Democratic leadership it is better to resist and obstruct so President Trump can't claim a win. That alone is worth the temporary hurt done to the federal labor union worker and government service consumer. .
Agree in full.
Happy 23rd Shutdown Down.
The WH and McConnell should do nothing more, in order to facilitate an end to it, until a CR with a few billion in enhanced border security passes the House.
Was it a DNC wish list when the Senate nearly unanimously voted to approve the CR before Trump got clowned by conservative commentators to push for the wall?
Congress started to do what congressional persons tend to do - just rubberstamp something so they can adjourn and go home. Trump almost went along then got called out on it, that his whole purpose was to not be that kind of leader. He took it to heart and engaged in the fight and called the House and Senate to task, too.
Border patrol, Homeland security, Law enforcement, ICE The military,
all agree we need a wall..
Therefore the Democrats have Failed Americans and are responsible for the shutdown..
Any idea "what wall" they are talking about at any one point in time? Trump's original version? Trump's current version (whatever that may be)? Border patrol in Texas? Border patrol elsewhere? Border patrol along a specific section? - that, yes, could be problematic for patterns shift, which is another issue.
Homeland security during Obama's Administration built where it was feasible. Homeland security in Trump's Administration follows Trump.
County sheriffs along the Texas border (13 counties) do NOT (as of March 2018) support Trump's wall. No doubt you can find county sheriffs who think differently elsewhere.
Did the military weigh in? Mattis was less than enthused with Trump wanting troops on the border before T'giving. But then, wait, he's no longer SecDef.
