As for government employees --- most of them know that quitting will be like biting off their noses to spite their faces. A border wall is NOT "an enormous waste of money". For the umpteenth time, the wall that Bill Clinton had built on the San Diego/Tijuana border has drastically cut down on crime and illegal crossings. Why do you refuse to acknowledge that fact?

No one is talking about a continuous wall from San Diego to Brownsville, so of course, $5.7 billion isn't needed for that reason as the areas needing a border wall amount to about 550 miles. Thus, $5.7 billion is a good start
The Dems are just waiting for the spending bill to go through the Senate. There is nothing for them to do. Why should they just give Trump $5 billion? What do they get? Exactly--no incentive at all to make a deal.

The Dems have negotiated in good faith with Trump, and they did their job. They passed a spending bill. For the umpteenth time, Trump should have pushed for his big wall when he had a majority congress--why didn't he? Because making his wealthy friends wealthier was his first priority and first bill.

Trump could have made a deal last year. Trump has made deals--just broke his word later. Again--due to his Fox advisors. And those tea party/Fox people think compromise is a dirty word.

Trump said he was taking responsibility for the shut down. So why hasn't he? The president is a liar who cannot be trusted. That is why there won't be a wall.

Don't remind everyone of that. They've moved past it. He didn't mean it that way. In fact, he said he didn't even say it ('cept he said it like 211 times).

See that word "should", that is what he should do but that is not what he said.

It won't, and it shouldn't.

GOP folks do not miss the government.

Happy 23rd Shutdown Day.

This could lead to America recognizing the govt needs to be downsized permanently. Non essential, much of it, means not needed.

Democrats are willing to throw in money for border security. They are not willing to spend billions of dollars on this pointless tribute to Trump's ego. No Trump supporter, including yourself, is addressing the fact that $5.7 billion is not nearly enough to pay for a wall even if it would work. So it's nothing but a waste of a enormous amount of money. What's the point of it exactly?

So? How long would you work without pay? A lot of people can't afford to go a month or three months without it. What good are benefits if they can't take advantage of them? Have you ever heard of bills? They keep coming in whether one gets a paycheck or not. And Trump has been caught in about 7000 lies so far. I wouldn't believe him if his tongue came notarized. No one trusts him, not even his staff. Even if he cuts the deal for this wall, what happens when it's time for the next deal with Congress? Is he going to hold the workers or the American people hostage again? That's his M.O.; forcing everyone to do what he wants by trying to sidestep other branches of government. The Great Negotiator doesn't really like negotiating.

Then why didn't the Republicans pass funding for the wall before the Democrats came into power? Not even they wanted the wall. You can't argue that the Democrats are at fault when the Republicans refused to fund the wall when they were in power in all branches of government. They could have then and they thought it was a waste of money also. If they thought it was a waste of money, why is it suddenly a good idea now? Answer: Trump is whining like a little witch about it and bringing the government to a screeching halt until he gets his way. That's the only difference.

The Democrats offered 25 billion but trump countered with a "NO!" Extended shutdown courtesy of trump and the GOP.

— The new compromise GOP immigration bill includes provisions that would provide legal status for people who came to the U.S. illegally as children — including a path to citizenship — bar the separation of children from their parent or legal guardian at the border, and provide $25 billion in additional funding for a wall along the southern U.S. border.

But behind the scenes the White House has been involved. Immigration hardliner Stephen Miller, has been working with House negotiators, briefing the conservative Republican Study Committee on Wednesday on the details of the bill

But the GOP majority voted against it, probably following the orders of trump.

The vote was 54-45 in favor, but that was short of the 60 that were needed for approval. Eight Republicans bucked their party and supported the measure while three Democrats abandoned their own leaders and opposed it.

They can get new jobs anytime they desire. Employment At Will allows that.

Well Mitch McConnell has already relinquished his authority as Senate leader.

Any bill providing path to citizenship should be limited to far less than 1.8 mill DACA "kids", but solely kids who came by kindergarten to the USA. (Kids who came when older spent significant time in their home birth nation).

In addition, citizenship should require them first to successfully assist nation by turning in family still here illegally who brought them here.

It should also enhance immigration courts to facilitate deporting illegals very quickly upon capturing those criminals, and permanently forbid them from every entering US soil again, for life.
