As a black person originally from Texas, if I got offended every time I saw a confederate flag, I wouldn't be able to walk outside my house while growing up.
A flag does not offend me, and if it offends you then you're a snowflake.
MEH --- while you may feel that folks who don't feel the same way as you should be called derogatory names -- reality. We are all individuals. Just because as a black person it doesn't offend you -- doesn't mean it doesn't offend a whole lot of other black people. You don't speak for the race. You speak for yourself.
Whole lot of men are triggered by the Gillette commercial....and a whole lot aren't.
Does that make any one of those men entitled to dish out name calling to the others that don't feel the same way?
Triggered by a shirt-and you blame the person wearing the shirt? What if some racist wears a BLM shirt or some communist wears a Che shirt (a mass murdering thug)?
They were rough times. But not everyone was like that back then, including the vast majority. But it's over now, it's past tense. Everyone now gets along just fine. Sure there are still some problems in some certain cities in the South, but you can't judge a whole region by just 1 or 2% of it. Someone still carrying bitterness from those days cannot change the friendliness and hospitality that holds true here today. Some of my Black friends are some of my best friends, always were. The only people that weren't were the ones that showed me otherwise. And that doesn't matter what race a person is.
Rough times my ass. That’s weak.
So southerners just decided to suspend their good manners for a period? That’s what you’re saying?
Rough times are when folks show their true character. Southerners showed theirs in all its glory.

You go take a damn break.
See, there you go trying to tell someone what to do again.

Or a Dick Cheney T-shirt...speaking of mass murdering thugs.
The South is very unique and actually while I"m from Louisiana the South in general does have its own cuisine, culture, etc. We also have the Southern hospitality and friendliness which unfortunately is being diluted by transplants such as yourself. I've lived in the north too and its like night and day. We also have a focus on faith and family that is different than anywhere else in the nation.
Additionally the flag also represents standing up to an overreaching federal government as well and supporting states rights which even today are not respected, such as the government forcing abortion and Obamacare and gun control on us against our wishes. For example if we had our way here in Louisiana, abortion would be illegal here. Yet we have to live under Roe vs Wade.....and right now New York has already made clear it wants its partial birth abortion law allowing for abortion up until birth expanded across the country.
Best post. Nothing else I would or could say would make any difference to anyone. It is sad to me to read about people who move to the south and disparage what people feel or say about the culture they have moved into.

You're putting us all in the same group again. Read what I wrote. The vast majority were not like that, even at the worst peak of it. You are taking the worst of the worst and applying it to everyone. Plus read where I wrote that it is past tense. Most people from back then aren't even around anymore. They have passed on. Or are you holding all the kin of the South hostage from the those particular evil-doers?

You don't have to live under anything because no one forces you or yours to get an abortion and you don't belong snooping around in the wombs of other women and their families. In NY we don't sacrifice the lives of our mother's, sister's, aunts, niece's, etc. for a non-viable fetus...we are just funny that way.
