Persian was an ancient empire that no longer exists. What exists today is Iran. Calling someone Persian is like calling a Sudanese person a Nubian or a Iraqi a Sumerian. It's the domain of geeks longing for a past that is no longer there.
I'm not really a fan of organized religion, I find Islam to be particularly repulsive. Whatever floats people's boats I guess.
