Which denomination should be the official one? You know that some Christian denominations are LGBT affirming and some aren't as hard-lined against abortion. Despite their political dominance, white evangelical fundamentalists only comprise about 25% of the American population. What about the other 75% of Americans?
Who's pushing laws on you? Seriously, what is it out there that scares you so much that you think the government is going to "make" you do? I really don't understand.
It comes down to other people are allowed to do things that his religion doesn't like.
Immoral laws harm all of society. Look at slavery. That evil affected more than just those who committed the act or were victims of it. 150 years later, America is still paying a steep price for it. Look at the strife America has to now endure because of it, particularly from those who want to prolong it as an issue.
Christians of the era taught that slavery was approved by God and part of God's natural order.

The poster is almost certainly going to bring up that Christians were at the forefront of the abolitionist movement. That is true. But, what they leave out is that the Christians that did fight slavery were the "liberal" Christians of that day. They were the Christians that the good God-fearing, slave-owning Southern Baptists believed were apostate and not really Christian at all.
The goverment tried to use religion as a rail or guide when creating laws and the constitution. We have “in god we trust” on money which is what we value most as a country. We have laws that follow religious moral code, otherwise prostitution, gambling, and drugs would be legal everywhere. Would be great for the economy but it’s not “morally” right per religion so we followed that lead.
What eventually happened is religion stated to become a hinderance to those in power right from the establishment of our nation. Hard to argue for slavery, war, capitalism, and treatment of native Americans and stay in line with Jesus. So you have to decide if you want theology to run the country or money. We chose money and justified all the things that go against Christianity by twisting words in the Bible.
Look at religion today, we have remade it to fit our interpretation of what we want Christianity to be. Mega churches, Jesus wants you to be rich, $5 dollar holy water to fix your problems. Where the hell is this stuff in the Bible, Jesus was washing feet and and feeding the poor not building a third house on the Red Sea.
No one is forcing you to marry someone of the same sex or have an abortion. The laws allow others to do so if they want. Who I choose to marry does not force anything on you. If I choose to have an abortion does not force anything on you.
Illicit sex does affect all of society. Here is a fact: The majority of HIV cases in the US involve homosexuals. That's just plain truth. That means all of society is dealing with and paying to treat these sick patients. EVERY immoral act has societal consequences.

The Catholic Church, my church, did not. They were out in front against slavery decades before the Emancipation Proclamation.
