Neither, they are public.

Public organizations can be socialist, but they are done in a capitalist environment, so they are not by nature socialist.

They're no more communist or socialist, than, say, city codes about garbage accumulation or noise.

I don't know about Raleigh, but where I live it's a typical question to ask a realtor - is the house in a neighborhood that has an HOA, and are we required to pay dues? And then the buyer can make their decision on whether they like HOAs, or whether they don't, in which case choose another neighborhood.

It's kind of a boneheaded dichotomy, because it's neither.

HOAs are not communist, socialist, or fascist.

They are instead communitarian.

You don't have to accept the dictates of an HOA. If you don't like your life governed by a committee, then don't live there.

I mean, hell's bells. You can say that about pretty much any group you care to join, from your local church to your country club to whatever else.

I look at them more like insurance. You buy in and agree to follow the rules to insure against the neighborhood turning into something it wasn't when you bought.

neither....

HOA's..an association that sets particular rules/laws, and fee's ... so noeither socialist nor communist....

but you might be able to fit fascist (socialism lite)(a leftist ideology) in with it
Quote:
""Fascism is a system in which the government leaves nominal ownership of the means of production in the hands of private individuals but exercises control by means of regulatory legislation and reaps most of the profit by means of heavy taxation. In effect, fascism is simply a more subtle form of government ownership than is socialism."" Mussolini

Until some uber-fascists take over the association and change it into something worse.

Technically neither but I still won't live in one so long as I have a choice.

Neither. They're fabulous. And it repels the liberal racket.
