Because in 48/50 states a candidate can win the popular vote by one vote and receive all of that state's electoral votes while the votes for the opponent are thrown in the trash and count for nothing. WHY shouldn't every voter's vote count?

I first seriously thought about the EC in high school in the late '60s and thought it was antiquated and silly even then, had nothing to do with any election results. IF we must keep this antiquated system let's make states award electoral votes proportionally according to the popular vote.

Because every single vote should count.

Every single vote already counts. Just because you lose, it doesn't mean your vote wasn't counted. It means you didn't have enough votes for things to go your way.

It's the same as we have a Senate where every small State gets a vote equal to large State.
We are a Union of Independent States. That's the way we were formed and the way our founders intended us to stay.

Dissolve the EC you might as well dissolve the boundaries and the governments of each state.

There interests should certainly matter they just shouldn't matter more. The Electoral College is antiquated relic that the founders put in because they were suspicious of democracy. Times change and I think its time every vote should count and not be weighted in favor of rural interests. One person one vote!

Last time I checked, everyone had one vote. People in rural areas don't vote several times for the same candidate.
People in rural areas, much to the dismay of large cities, have the right to choose the president just as much as anyone else, like it or not.
Of course all those that now hate the electoral college, thought it was the best thing since sliced bread when many in the news media were predicting Trump would win the popular vote but lose the electoral college. I clearly remember liberals being interviewed right before the election, praising the electoral college because it was going to save the nation from a Trump presidency. You can't have it both ways.

Correct its just votes in rural areas count more thats wrong and thats why the electoral college should be disbanded. This isn't the 18th century clinging to the past is why the USA is stagnating culturally and losing influence abroad.
Responses in red.

And? What's wrong with that when electing those who are supposed to represent the entire country and not just interests contained within those boundaries? Or is the United States of America just a myth?
