Sen. Bernie Sanders released a plan Saturday to repair the American public education system that focuses on ending school segregation and racial discrimination against students, recognizing a growing outcry over schools that have become increasingly re-segregated in the wake of the landmark Brown vs. Board of Education Supreme Court decision that was handed down 65 years ago Friday.
The plan would try to revive the force of the federal government’s efforts in the 1950s and 1960s to end the separation of students by race, help school districts that are trying to desegregate their own schools, and address funding disparities that mean students of color often end up in schools that have less money and more inexperienced teachers.

NY still has the urban-suburban program, I went to a suburban school and we had black and puerto rican kids from the city bused in every day, and we didn't have a problem with it

Racial and income diversity is good. However, it can be burden on the students who have to travel so far everyday. A school I went to had a somewhat similar situation, but the distance made it really difficult for black and Hispanic students to get involved in the community. They had zero ties to the area the school was in, and it was a trek by car, so its not like they could easily participate in after school activities.

I'm not sure busing is the answer here.
I have witnessed:
I have witnessed Racial Diversity working where accepted by all participants.
I have never witnessed Income Diversity working under any circumstance.
Bad idea. Do you notice how Blacks self segregate today? Look at all the universities have Black only graduations. They don't want to be bused into some community far away where they don't know anyone. It didn't work in the 70's and it won't work now.
