And major Chinese cities have the infrastructure to track a credit program. The party wants to expand it to the entire country, this is just the first step.
America has a credit system since long time ago. So?
When you apply for a job, they track your all employment history and criminal records, sometimes credit history too. They know exactly where you lived, where you worked and where you went to school.

Therefore US government monitors citizens to the same extent. The only difference is China is experimenting it on behaviors, not just financial situations and criminal records.

I’d gladly pay $2000 for a cell phone if the battery lasted 5 years instead of 2.

Same for major appliances. I’d rather pay more for quality every 10 years instead of paying less for crap every 3 years.

The only thing is the quality will not improve. Those companies already use the state-of-the-art technology.
"Made in China is bad" is simply a cliche.

Maybe, but Americans don't need to be flooded with cheap smartphones.

If people bought less of this junk we'd have been better off.

I have problems with our credit system, but China has more tools to go after individuals for whatever reason than the US government.

China can take money off your account, jail you, or take away your access to basic goods. Much more than our government.
