“The desire to avoid this kind of social shame may be enough to persuade some agents to quit or may hinder the recruitment of replacements. For those who won’t (or can’t) quit, it may induce them to treat the vulnerable individuals under their control more humanely.”

It is an "Opinion piece" in the NY Times from one author. People are allowed to voice their opinions even if they are incredibly stupid. If Sean Hannity can spew nonsense on a nightly basis, no reason to get upset over one very misguided opinion piece in the NY Times.
Has it ever dawned on these morons that border agents and ICE agents are actually doing good work that helps the illegal and immigrant communities?
Imagine living in a neighborhood where some drug dealing loser is raping women and beating up people. The Police come, arrest the low life, it is then found out that he is illegally in the country so great right that means ICE will pick him up and deport him and the neighborhood won't have to deal with him anymore... WRONG the very same party that is asking for your vote just prevented that fine young man from being deported which means he will be hanging out causing trouble again.
The Border agents and ICE are there to help people.
I hate people like this. Border Patrol agents are only doing their jobs, they have to follow the law.
