....And Grandma will never leave the U.S. and with the help of Tlaib, game the American system AND the American taxpayers of all the social/financial benefits we offer.
They could have met in Italy, Greece or Turkey.
At 90+ yrs old she won't be a legal immigrant. There's not much she can game in the US since her grand daughter is part of the system now. This isn't this Palestinian Authority, so if Tlaib does anything it will blow up her face.
Countries can do many things, that doesn't mean its an intelligent decision. They support the BDS movement and that is the reason Netanyahu stopped their visit. This has caused a greater division in both countries, not much of a democracy if it can't withstand a visit from two US congresswomen, what are they afraid of.
As they had no intention of meeting with Abbas either, who was going to be their security (US can't be on foreign soil, Mossad won't publicly go into area A and according to Arabic articles she went off on the Palestinian Authority)?

I happen to agree it was a bad decision, but ...
The U.S. has denied visas to many people. Does that mean the U.s. was afraid of thse who were denied or it makes us more or less 'democratic.'
Denying visas is nothing unusual. You either don't know that or apply a double standard to Israel.

I'm not familiar with area A or Abbas, who was going to be the security if she visited her grandmother.

How can type in thread after thread and no nothing about Israel/Palestine? Area A is for Palestinians only which is guarded by the Palestinian Authority. Abbas is the President of the Palestinian Authority. So, again who would be her security?
Their trip was to have been organized by a non-profit called 'Mifta.' Omar and Tlaib had both turned down an alternative trip organized by a bi-partisan group of US House members.
This is the 'blood libel' of medieval times that resulted in many anti-Jewish pogroms in Europe. How long are Democrats and liberals going to continue in denial of the fact that these two are vicious and vile anti-Semites?
btw I would add that I read this conservative writer, David French, and find him to be on the order of a Michael Medved--always reasoned, moderate (sometimes to a fault), and always looking for 'kumbaya' approaches.
Wow, Travis....good find.
So THIS is the group that Omar and Tlaib joined forces with - disgusting anti-Semites who are still advancing the age-old LIE that Jews used the blood of Christians for their wine at Passover?? They rejected a bi-partisan group to instead partner with Mifta?
Sickening. We have blatant anti-Semites on the alt-left in Congress whom the Democrats not only refuse to sanction....they actually defend them. And then they have the gall to say Republicans are the bigots.
The reason they gave for not going on the big trip earlier this month is because AIPAC sponsored that trip.
Tlaib still could have visited her grandmother, irrespective of the sponsorship of the trip, if that were in fact her primary motivation. As it happens, of course, it was not.

Considering this was a national security consideration for the State of Israel, it appears that whether or not some in the U.S. would view the decision as a "smart" one in terms of political or popular support is of no moment or impact whatsoever.

From what I've read, Talib and Omar listed 'Palestine' rather than Israel or specific sites as their destination. A reasonable response is to deny entry because there is no 'Palestine' and a new itinerary listing specific cities/sites would be considered.
Yes...but then again, neither Talib nor Omar are intellectual giants, by any stretch of the imagination.
You know, it's a darned hard thing to search for. Google news archives have become increasingly inaccessible over time and general search results give you want they want you to see, not what I want to see.
