Currently there are just rarely imposed fines for hiring illegals. Would jail time for people who hire illegals be a better deterrent than just deporting the people they hire? At least for cases where they performed no eligibility checks whatsoever?

Some high profile coverage of a construction business owner, a Hollywood type with some illegal maids, and a typical suburban family who has an illegal mow their lawn all in cuffs should dry up the demand real quick.

Every roofing and landscaping company company in Florida would be shut down. And Florida went republican. Lol.

$500 fine, the illegals get fired and within a week you're back in business with a new batch of illegals.

Came from Texas where that happened regularly at the chicken processing plants.

Republican businesses depend on this cheap labor. They just want the appearance of being against illegal immigration. This has been proven over and over. We even have a POTUS whose own businesses hire illegals.

Basically it would really solve the problem. But neither party really wants that.

This is the obvious solution, but it isn't a good narrative for those in charge.

Fines haven't worked. I've said for years that CEO's and business owners should do prison time and we'd see how quickly hiring practices would change.

When Trump & the Republicans controlled Congress why didn't they make E-Verify the law across the land?
If you shut off the employment spigot illegals will go home.

Oh the fines have worked; just not the way you think. The business pays the government. The government now has more money.
And this is a recurring theme.

This is a "revenue stream" for the government. Like the mafia used to do with "protection money" that they collected from store owners.

The very same thing when banks/businesses get caught doing wrong. They pay hefty fines to the government and go right back to business.

None of us who are directly impacted ever see a penny of those fines.

Florida barely went for Trump.

4,605,515 for Trump
4,485,575 for Clinton
295,483 for others

Number of voting age citizens in Florida = 14,442,000

35% didn't bother voting.

Just under 10 million people DID NOT vote for Trump in Florida. (69.2%)
