Most cities are poorly maintained now. I can find vagrants, thieves and abandon buildings among the great growth here.
Trump is so stupid that he forgot his proclamation of rebuilding the nations infrastructure. He has an opportunity to show that he has some cattle and not all hat.
There have always been vagrants, thieves and abandoned buildings in major cities going back hundreds of years. No shortage of this in rural areas, too.
No shortage of “ seedy areas” become gentrified. Starbucks opens shop and there goes the neighborhood.
Should we pretend that other politicians care....because they clearly don't! Did you care when Bernie called it like a 3rd world country? How about the recent mayor who complained about smelling the rats? Trump is a jerk most of the time but none of these other politicians are without sin!
Where is the media, and Elijah Cummings, screaming that Bernie Sanders is a racist?

Sanders brings up Baltimore as an example of what needs to be fixed, because he GENUINELY CARES about the people who live there.
Trump brings up Baltimore to rub it in Cummings' face. He uses it as a weapon, as an insult. Trump couldn't care less about life in Baltimore nor does he have any proposals to make life there better.
Sanders is motivated by compassion and care. Trump is motivated by anger, hate, revenge and pettiness.

I think it's either they see him as their champion, economically and culturally, and therefore willing to put up with anyone willing to push back against socio-cultural change

(worse) they are on some level actually impressed with his behavior, and maybe even enjoy his vicious personal attacks.
Anyway, Trump reminds me of this crazy dad at the JV football game who, when he sees his linebacker son buckle under on the field, explodes from his seats and screams "Be a man and knock that guy on his ass next time before I have to jump down there and whip some self respect into you!!!" (needless to say, you should imagine the dad's speech in all-caps).
