Which church, and which government? It certainly isn't the case for any religion(s) in the United States.
The religious right has certainly had a huge voice in the direction of the Republican party over the recent decades. They wield a tremendous amount of influence.
We always hear how women are "strong and independent". But really, if women are so strong and independent"
then why were they so easily "oppressed" ? and the like in the first place?
In the U.S it’s the religious right that makes or at least wants to set the rules in this country. Their influence is still very strong in this country.
SJWs, Bible thumpers, Climate Changers, Law & Order Cons, etc all have their pet issues but the common denominator is the religion of the State (statism).
You can believe in any of that stuff if you want. More power to you. But when you organize to use the State's monopoly of force on others via law, regulation, policy etc in the name of your specific cause you've clearly assigned the State as your Highest Power.
What group DOESN'T want to set the rules? While they might have some modest influence, it is weak and getting weaker (thanks for that).
Thanks for what? Didn’t read that link?

Many of today's women believe that the man is head of the household because the BIBLE told them so.
Time was in France and Louisiana when a woman's father died, her share of the inheritance went to her husband. IIRC, it was in the 1960's that an employed American women could not get a mortgage without a male co signer. When credit cards first came out, they were in the husbands name even if the wife had a job.
And don't forget, when reading about the admonition against gays in Sodom and Gomorrah in Genesis, when the townsmen came to Lot's house to get the strangers for sex, Lot gave them his daughters.
Let’s not forget witches they were modern day pharmacist they help women give birth, help people who were sick, etc. Christianity came around they convinced everybody that which were bad and worship Satan. Then of course they turned the tables and once again convinced everyone that men knew more about such things then women did.

Which is why statism is the most dangerous religion.
I don't think you understand your latest buzzword, "statism." It was an amendment made to the constitution by our government that helped to secure equal rights for all. The ERA.
Quote:
The Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) is a proposed amendment to the United States Constitution designed to guarantee equal legal rights for all American citizens regardless of sex. It seeks to end the legal distinctions between men and women in terms of divorce, property, employment, and other matters
Women are no stronger nor more independent than men.
Men have been subjugated, the same as women have, and when they were, there was nothing they could do about it.
This is of course the unpleasant truth. And those benefiting will tend to see it as natural or God's will.

Were the Irish so weak and humble when they were discriminated against? I don't think so; they were simply victims of the time, like Black people, Germans, and everyone else who spent "time in the barrel".
For long - really quite seriously long - stretches of time, the larger part of any population existed in servitude. Feudalism in all its variations (slavery, serfdom, company towns) was a success because it worked.
The field hands in the antebellum South were much stronger than the soft-handed plantation owners, yet they were kept broken and subjugated not just physically, but by keeping them in ignorance of their numbers and by using religion to sugarcoat the basic injustice of their fate.
As for female subjugation, one thing that has worked against women would have been the fact that they have the kids - and that we as a species are mighty interested in sex and can get pregnant pretty much non-stop. Which means that the only way a man can be sure that his bloodline is propagated is by keeping an eye on his woman/women at all times - be it physically, or by instituting some sort of societal control.
